New Star Wars film due for release? That must mean it's time for another terminally ill nerd who wants to see the movie before they die. Step forward Ne!l H@nvey

Oh Lord, Telegraph coverage:

It'll take more than the force to wake him, Jim.

I picked Craig Lyons who made the news because he sued Thomas Cook for a missed 'last holiday' and won.

Now he makes global news again, because his wife shaves her head for him... in support...

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/bride-shaves-head-on-wedding-day-in-tribute-to-terminally-ill-husband/

I guess they're milking it for all it's worth...

Shameless pick Craig Lyons now has a documentary out:

He also gets visits from Liverpool player Lucas Leiva:

Don't knock it, he's hauled himself into DDP contention on this level of self-promotion.

And another name I'm sure the canniest of DDPers had this name pencilled in as a "please hold on": Ben Ellis, the cancer-stricken teacher who went viral recently due to a video of his students serenading him at his window, has died. Unsurprisingly, the Daily Mail come through with the QO.

Another inspirational cancer blogger fails to make the starting line for 2017: @nn@ Sw@bey.

Hmm, had her on my long list, with the comment that she was given to live until Jan. 2018...

Meanwhile, one half of a real life "Fault in our Stars" couple named Dalton Prager, has died of cystic fibrosis. Against the medical advice of their doctors, these two patients of the same illness got together. The widow is currently in hospice care.

Kirsty Keep - one of those perenielly ill and locally celebrated types - who is mentioned earlier in this thread did manage to get £60,000 raised to send her to the States where she got a proper diagnosis. Basically really ill but not likely to be so spectacularly threatened as to make a tragic "last Christmas" story in the press and offer us points a few weeks later.

In more recent news on Kris Hallenga, her cancer started growing as liver and bone cancer this year and this is being treated with an unlicensed drug. This is on top of the repeat malignant brain tumours, prior treated liver cancer, and the whole terminal Stage IV breast cancer which she's survived for the last seven years.

She's got more fight in her than an entire years scripts of Eastenders.

K!rstie T@ncock, a former pole dancer who had become a media spokesperson for the importance of organ donations in cystic fibrosis, dead at 27. More importantly, I now have to go and find a new captain for 2017.

You could always go with Emma Morano if all else fail

She was good friends with my sister and I met her a few times. An absolutely lovely person. RIP x

Kia Lettice, who probably would have made a few of the less salubrious DDP teams in 2017 due to the Mail's Australian staff taking an interest in her, dead at 22.

Shameless pick Lisa Brown is in her very final days, but the obit is very unlikely as well:

https://www.gofundme.com/LisaBrown

Seems good though for pools with minimal obit standards if she makes Jan

Aye, so - reality check - reputable news source in English (qualifying for Deathrace) would include her local paper online. Just don't tell her that!
