Yeah, I was thinking along the lines of anyone that was familiar with her work in general though admit that using "grow up" made it sound like it was only about children's stuff.

Oh no, I didn't take it that way.  I would use that expression about any actor who was regularly on TV from my childhood onwards.

No, it was because you said your age was a factor as well as location, ie that you weren't of an age to have watched the kids' programmes that were mentioned.

At least I'm not named after something that's shaped like a dick.

Ah I see, I was mostly going by msc describing her as a "one for folks of a certain age" type name and figured she was someone generally most familiar to earlier generations.

Having been out for most of today and popping on here, I have to say Sheila's death hits hard.

If you recall that she was probably one of the finest comedic and straight actresses of her time, it is difficult to get away from her most starring roles on TV, the aforementioned Ghosts of Motley Hall, her voice of Wellington in The Perishers, and a foil for Bernard Cribbins, Spike Milligan and Frankie Howerd among others. She is also the second death from Never Too Young To Rock after Freddie Jones, the vid of which I have already posted upon his death.

Probably only second to Josephine Tewson as a female "Straight Man" to comedy legends.

I am, quite simply, devastated. RIP.

Until you actually know who and what the fuck you are talking about to add sarcasm to your post, shut the fuck up and let the grown ups pay homage to a fabulous character actress who had an extensive career on TV and the stage.

OK?

Goddamn....a little butthurt?
You'll be amazed how scrolling past [Banana's] comments still allows you to 'pay homage to a fabulous character actress who had an extensive career on TV and the stage' without your frail constitution being marred.

Yeah, that was because while it was before my time, I know from my many years on this forum how much several posters loved Ghosts of Motley Hall. Also I knew she was fairly ever-present on 70s TV.

I remember her best as the voice of Mother Nature in SuperTed. I did watch Woof but the hell can I remember any of that one 30 years on! (Which is saying something for a show about a boy who turns into a dog!)

PS Her agent Barry Langford has confirmed it. She had leukemia.  When the actual press deems to take notice, I know not.

Steafel not getting an obituary yet is truly bizarre.

That should answer a few questions about why she was known and respected by so many.

As great as Sheila Steafel was,  and Josephine Tewson is, no-one beats June Whitfield in the female Straight Man role.

Looking at this thread reminds me many years ago I compiled a list of all Muppet Show guests (original series only) and whether they were still among the living or had passed.  Every now and then I update it when a guest dies.  I believe this is now an accurate listing  The list is in order of appearance:

MUPPET GUESTS

  GUEST                                                                       STATUS

Valerie Harper                                                          alive

Updating the Muppets guest thread to reflect the death of Valerie Harper in late August.

For your list, maybe?

Phyllida Law (1932) - former Play School presenter and Jackanory presenter, also acclaimed TV/film actress, and Mother of the Magic Roundabout and Emma Thompson.

Valerie Singleton (1937) and Peter Purves (1939) surely need no introduction. Anita West (1935) also lives.

David Graham (1925) - Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Dr Who
