Just wait for the best part of the game; Joey Russ, who currently has 0 points and no team will all of a sudden have 2000 points heading his way, making him the victor of the very first Windy City Dead Pool. :P

Please, Billy Graham, do the Christian thing and die for me this month so that I do not end up looking totally humiliated. :P

Book's performance is really astonishing. The first 8 people are all dead...

I think I might have a team ready, but I'm going to wait in case someone like Zandvliet or Nevin makes it to May.

I will post the Round 2 thread and open entries tomorrow!

But first, I need opinions on the scoring system to be used.

Should we keep the current one, which is: 500, 250, 200, 150, 100, 95, 90, 85, 80, 75, 70, 65, 60, 55, 50, 45, 40, 35, 30, 25.

Or should we change it to: 500, 450, 400, 350, 300, 275, 250, 225, 200, 180, 160, 140, 120, 100, 85, 70, 55, 50, 45, 40. The benefit of this one is that the gaps are smaller so you still have a shot at doing well even if some of your top entries fail to die.

I like the second one tbh. You should say or obit though. :P

I like point spread option #2.  And a small bonus for solos, or using solos as a tiebreaker criteria.

Jane Freeman a hit for Bibliogryphon. Normally I wouldn't do an update for a single, unique hit, but this very well may be the last hit. Just over 2 weeks to go.

Oh boy, did I jinx it.

Bruce Langhorne dies 7 hours later. If he gets an obit, he will put DeathImpends back in the lead after Book's month at the top.

Much needed late boost for CaptainChorizo and RadGuy (hey, that's me!)

No obit for Bruce Langhorne as of yet, which is crucial for DeathImpends to take the lead with a fortnight left.

I'm honestly surprised he hasn't received one yet. Thought he'd get one by now.

Think Langhorne should QO quite easily for inspiring Mr. Tambourine Man, but needs a few days for the news to disseminate through to the radars of mainstream sources.

The Telegraph came through for Langhorne, meaning Death Impends is officially in the lead again now.

Bruce Langhorne has the obit. Just under triple-digits points for both DeathImpends and gcreptile.

Apparently my pick Masamitsu Yoshida died on 29th October 2016.

You will need to remove him from my 2017/8 team as well.

Yup, I realized that a couple months ago. But he didn't get the proper obit so no points, unfortunately.

I found one from The Irish Times and the Japan Times (in English). On my phone so cannot link.

That doesn't qualify anyway.

"Obit rules are the same as under the DDP, but I will add the following American networks: ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC. Local affiliates don't count, though."

One more minor update before we crown our winner.

I missed the March death of Robert Osborne, he's a hit for Captain Chorizo.

Also, Robert M. Pirsig is a hit for The Unknown Man, who now barely sneaks into four-digits.
Took a peek at the more obscure names, don't think I missed anybody.

Heck, more than half the names left are obscure names to me.  If I were running it, I would say that the standings are final 24 hours after close of business this April, and it is up to each person to check the names left on their list for any missed obits.  I am being a stickler cause I can really use the third place prize money right now.

On a serious note, I have always wanted to run my own pool, running from July thru June, and the only way I know to do it is like this one, via a thread on this site.  So anyone interested in a new take on death please check back in a couple of weeks.  I want it to be free to start, then maybe eventually have a small entry fee and some first and second place prizes.  Nothing out of control, maybe limit it to 15 or 20 players.  Look for "ABC Deathpool".  - Your friendly neighborhood Wormfarmer.

RadGuy, thanks for your work in running this one.  It is fun.

Thanks for the kind words, Wormfarmer.

I hate to burst your bubble, but there is no prize money... none of the deadpools on here have entrance fees/prize money.

Assuming no one dies in the next hour, I'd like to congratulate Death Impends on his win.

*bugles playing as if this were a medieval coronation ceremony*

Ladies and gentlemen, the inaugural Windy City Deadpool has officially ended.

We have our winner!

Let's take a look at the full scoreboard...

14) YoungWillz - 30 points

13) Bibliogryphon - 145 points

12) Davy Jones' Locker - 655 points

11) ImNotHades - 690 points

10) Jiromeon Kimura - 895 points

9) The Unknown Man - 1005 points

8) gcreptile - 1040 points

7) RadGuy - 1050 points

6) Captain Chorizo - 1130 points

5) msc - 1285 points

4) Shaun of the Dead - 1305 points

3) Wormfarmer - 1370 points

This chap is definitely a star player.

He visits the Deathlist Forums almost exclusively because of this competition, it seems.

He finished in 3rd place with 1370 points and 9/20 hits, including 5 of his top 6.

2) Book - 1625 points

Despite being in a constant battle for the lead, going back and forth, Book lost the lead just two weeks ago with a Bruce Langhorne obit.

His performance was incredible, all of his top 8 died. It is also worth noting that he basically competed with a team of 18.

How so? Well, one pick, Sally Sweetland, was discovered to have died years ago. Another - Piet de Jong, missed out on a qualifying obit.

1) DeathImpends - 1690 points

Ah, one of the best deadpoolers ever. DeathImpends, not-so-surprisingly, wins yet another deadpool.

14/20 of his picks died - amazing performance!

This man put in some incredible effort to win the Windy City Deadpool 2016-17. Congrats to him and good luck in the next round!
