rockhopper penguin 2,265 Posted June 2, 2016 Is Petula Clark not a unique pick for myself? And hat tip to Rover and Out on Plas Johnson. I'd have had 5 uniques if you hadn't also dug that one out.
YoungWillz 21,066 Posted June 2, 2016 I've got Len Maddocks as well so unlikely to be a unique hit if ro has him too. Otherwise looks like my picks are listed.
msc 18,480 Posted June 2, 2016 I see several of us went directly to the same source for the cricket! That's three or four picks that aren't unique because me and Death Impends had the same idea too!
Bibliogryphon 9,588 Posted June 2, 2016 Ok thanks for the corrections. Have edited the lists and my masterlist accordingly. I think the cricket one was the toughest for players to complete.
Death Impends 7,992 Posted June 2, 2016 Have got at least one unique in each category which is a nice surprise.
gcreptile 10,979 Posted June 2, 2016 You win some, you lose some.... Rover and Out and me both picked Lady Saltoun and Lord Hapgood. On the other hand, I did not expect Arun Lal to be a unique pick, though of course, it's 'only' throat cancer.

RoverAndOut 4,746 Posted June 2, 2016 Well I can already only win on two of the three criteria as I do not have 3 unique picks amongst my 25 to win outright that way. Darn you Rockhopper and Plas Johnson! He was a banker unique pick! I would never have picked Windsor Davies as I assumed he was already dead so that was a nice surprise. Bernard Cribbins was on my Doctor Who shortlist until he turned up in A Midsummer Night's Dream on Bank Holiday Monday and looked the picture of health so kudos to Deathray if you get a hit. Interestingly Ken Dodd and Windsor Davies both made my Doctor Who list but not my Number Ones list. I'm surprised no one picked Charlene Mitchell on the Presidential politics one: Aged 86, she is (as far as I can tell) the only surviving candidate from the 1968 Presidential election, when Richard Nixon beat Hubert Humphrey. She was the Communist Party's candidate, was under the required age to enter office and has remained involved in politics right up into the late 2000s. Maybe that's what put people off (it did me) but I'm surprised no one took a punt, particularly since Reptile took a punt on La Donna Harris, who I considered healthier than Mitchell. An interesting quirk of this game I realised was that it was hard to decide who to pick as the time scale for the game is hard to judge. If the Grim Reaper's on your side, the game could be finished inside a couple of months, but if we've picked poorly then it could go a couple of years. The temptation to pick the 5 oldest people in each category was strong, but I tried to use a little more imagination. I fear others have picked more wisely than myself however.
RoverAndOut 4,746 Posted June 2, 2016 OK This is how the scoreboard will appear. Each player has five digits after their name and abbreviation these correspond to each category Doctor Who/Lords/US Elections/Test Cricketers/No.1 UK Singles If a player scores a hit then one of the numbers will change. If the player scores a unique hit the colour of the whole entry will change Black = 0, Green = 1, Orange = 2 and if they get three they win. Bibliogryphon 9,588 Posted June 8, 2016 Seen as absolutely nothing is happening here, anyone else think this could go over the year? Yes it could but it could equally be gone in a month. Those Lords look pretty topplesome to me. I think that is part of the tension. It might even outlive by-election bingo.
RoverAndOut 4,746 Posted June 9, 2016 Seen as absolutely nothing is happening here, anyone else think this could go over the year? Yes it could but it could equally be gone in a month. Those Lords look pretty topplesome to me. I think that is part of the tension. It might even outlive by-election bingo. I made this point on submission. It's been hard trying to decide which Doctor Who actors might die because I'm not sure if we're talking 6 months, 1 year or 3 years. Bernard Cribbins is clearly in fine fettle but he could suffer some kind of setback early next year and suddenly he looks a good pick. Or it might not be relevant because the game's already over! I reckon this will go longer than we think (those Lords have a surprising propensity to longevity). Unique picks may be the saving grace, three deaths that somehow everyone else avoided and boom! We're done.

Rotten Ali 600 Posted June 12, 2016 Oh heck, first hit in a brand new pool. Truly honoured. Won't be supprised if I don't get another hit before someone else wins the first contest. By the looks of it I'm holding a total of seven unique choices of the 25 listed names. That now becomes any two from six... John McVie of Fleetwood Mac is my main hope. Brian Blessed, maybe?
