I went back to 2003 to look up those record consecutive hits – hey, the obit notes were fun back then!

On a different note, I don't understand the "earliest/latest" date to (*) correct DeathList predictions". Care to explain? :)

2019: Spade Cooley - Squonk 16-0 (February)

2020: Bibliogryphon - msc 0-15 (March)

2019: Reptile - Banana 6-21 (May)

Special mention: The original squonking: 2017: Reptile - Death Impends 2-16 (April) - would be something like 3-25 with today's scoring system. However, we still accepted FFBIs back then of which DI picked two. I also suffered from 2 non-obits IIRC.

2017 scored somewhat differently, but they also allowed FFBIs. Still, there are actually not that many record-breaking games in 2017 and 2018.

That's good enough for a podium place! (It's one of the two games to feature on all the first 3 charts.)

You know how, statistically, there all those murders that happen every day but never get reported by the media. Cause reality is dark and whatnot. Tons of murders the TV doesn't talk about.

I wonder about those many sad, left wing, white haired (or no haired) American blokes, 45 and over, who have Twitter and FB pages where they constantly claim to be in ecstasy because Trump is gone -  posting that stupid "crying with tears" emojii every single tweet. Like every single tweet, worse than  a British soccer watcher.

Its been a good few months wonder how many of those who claimed to be in the best mood ever have actually shot their wives and then theirselves, in the time that's passed, In some part of Virginia, or Delaware or just wherever.

Or, they died of an opiate overdose or something, and their dog died next to them of starvation before the police found the scene.

Is 250 or 500 a too low estimate? Anyone familiar with US stats?

Obviously, we all hope Phantard will be one of them.

Thought this was done already but couldn't find it. Anyhow, longest droughts in the DL. (Not counting 1987-89 due to rumours there was no 1988 DL)

2.       Papandreou to Xiaoping, 1996-97, 252 days

Let's see how far up the table this current run gets. Top ten doesn't feel out of reach.

A couple of days ago I was thinking of life expectancies in sports.

This list only includes physical sports that are thought or known to affect a person's lifespan negatively, not including sports in which former competitors have alcoholism. This list will be updated if someone has new information.

From positive to negative.

+ 10-12 years: Professional baseball players (MLB) according to historical data (https://www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.fcgi?id=f3lWz)

+ 9.7 years: Tennis (https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/sports-life-expectancy-1.4939918)

+ 6.2 years: Badminton (https://www.comparethemarket.com.au/blog/health/top-sports-to-increase-your-life-expectancy/)

+ 5.7 years: Endurance athletes (https://www.labmate-online.com/news/news-and-views/5/breaking-news/which-athletes-have-the-longest-life-expectancy/34105)

+ 4.7 years: Soccer (however suffering multiple blows to the head may cause dementia)

+ 4 years: Team athletes

+ 3.7 years: Cycling

+ 3.4 years: Swimming

+ 3.2 years: Jogging

+ 3.1 years: Callisthenics

+ 1.6 years: Power athletes

+ 1.5 years: Health club activities

--under normal life expectancy--

- ca. 7 years: NHL/professional hockey, according to some sources

- ca. 12 years: Basketball (NBA)

- ca. 15-11 years: Boxing

- ca. 25-15 years: Football (notably NFL players)

- ca. 20 years: Professional wrestlers

- ca. 26-15 years: Sumo wrestling, debatable: Makuuchi (top division) sumo wrestlers tend to live longer than the more unsuccessful sumo wrestlers.

Note: Many of these might have changed recently

Living people depicted on circulating (commemorative ones not counted) coins excluding monarchs:

(Popes Benedict XVI (1927-) and Francis (1936-))

Teodoro Obiang Nguema (1942-) Depicted on coins of Equatorial Guinea 1980-1981. Current dictator.

Ali Hassan Mwinyi (1925-) Depicted on coins of Tanzania 1987-2015. Last President of Tanzania to be depicted on coins. Former President

Tui Ātua Tupua Tamasese Tupuola Tufuga Efi (1938-) Depicted on Samoan coins in 2011. Prime Minister of Western Samoa 1976-1982 and 1982, O le Ao o le Malo 2007-2017.

Individual living animals:

Jonathan (ca. 1832-) World's oldest land animal, depicted on the Saint Helena five pence 1998-2006 and 2015

Dead after 2020:

Daniel Arap Moi (1924-2020) President of Kenya 1978-2002. Last President to be depicted on Kenyan coins.

Kenneth Kaunda (1924-2021) President of Zambia 1964-1991. Only president to be depicted on Zambian coins.

Quite uncommon nowadays to put a picture of a living person who isn't a monarch on a coin, especially one that isn't a commemorative one...The popes could in a way count as monarchs, Obiang Nguema is a mad dictator, Mwinyi could be called a dictator, same for Efi.

Five people and one tortoise, all above the age of 79. I'll try to update this list every time one dies.

ca. 20th of November 2022 it'll be longer since George Harrison's death than the time between Lennon's murder and Harrison's death (7661 days).

Remaining people who have been selected for every single Derby Dead Pool since 2003.

1. Emperor Akihito

2. Michael Barrymore

3. Queen Elizabeth II

4. Mikhail Gorbachev

5. Hulk Hogan

6. Holly Johnson

7. Henry Kissinger

8. Angela Lansbury

9. Imelda Marcos

10. Liza Minnelli

11. Rupert Murdoch

12. Leslie Phillips

13. Keith Richards

14. Desmond 2-2

15. Mike Tyson

Ryan O'Neal was close, but no one chose him for the DDP 2018. I think the last surviving one will be someone who is young enough to have plenty of years ahead of them, yet not in good enough health to the point of ever being deliberately overlooked. Or if not in bad health, then someone with an occupation that's popular among theme teams (wrestling/boxing). I could see Tyson being diagnosed with early stage dementia in the future, before dying in the mid-2030s.

8 of the 15 names were also in the DDP 1998.

1. Michael Barrymore

2. Queen Elizabeth II

3. Mikhail Gorbachev

4. Holly Johnson

5. Rupert Murdoch

6. Keith Richards

7. Desmond 2-2

8. Mike Tyson

It wouldn't surprise me if all of them were also in 1999-2002. It was harder to research back then, so I can imagine that the teams re-used most of the surviving names.

I thought Leslie would go a decade ago when his wife topped herself and he was meant to be extremely frail and in poor health. Now I'm beginning to think hes one of drols immortals, lurking around every major celebrity death to go "Ding Gone, survived another!"

Really old DDP stats and facts pages had a "Candidates chosen every year on the DDP (where records are known)" section, possibly done when the hosts still had access to data on that 1999-2002 interregnum?

Quote

Muhammad Ali, Captain Beefheart, Fidel Castro, Arthur C. Clarke (died 2008), Kirk Douglas, Rev. Billy Graham, Stephen Hawking, Charlton Heston (died 2008), Sir Edmund Hillary (died 2008), Holly Johnson, Nelson Mandela, Patrick Moore, The Queen, Nancy Reagan, Keith Richards, Mickey Rooney, Sir Jimmy Savile, Eric Sykes, Elizabeth Taylor, Margaret Thatcher, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Norman Wisdom

Just Holly Johnson, Libby, Keef, and Tutu still living out of the above, so they can be presumed as the best DDP attendance records of all.
