Derby Dead Pool 2017

Some good lines in that one, TMIB. And Not The List of the Missed fulfills its remit!

Is this the biggest deficit Spade's been from the top since he won in 2013? I can't recall.

Since Wikipedia no longer accepts the Daily Mail as a reliable source, maybe it is time for DDP to do the same?

But that'll cut off a lot of people. Not just FFBI types...

Looking like we could get to a team scoring 100 even more quickly than last year. Lots of the names in full vulture-circle mode (ie Coward, Nevin, Magill, Hewlett) are in the current lead's column.

Most of the" famous" for being for being ill" types usually come as a package deal btwn The Mirror,Daily Mail and Express. Getting rid of Daily Mail might stop person "famous in the Us decades ago" aka an Irwin Corey or a geriatric Hall Of Fame Hockey player from netting an occasional obit or a trainwreck Us reality star someone takes a punt on. It would have no actual effect on the top of table teams vulturing with cancer mum hits.

But Captain, those are some real favorites, for geriatric Americans like me!

Well, I'm still in the top ten, but struggling to remain. Next update I will probably not be in. :burnash:

I think the Droller Coaster will be contending for a top ten spot throughout the year, imo.

Newspapers and the kind of unique obits they specialise in:

Telegraph: Any good ol' fashioned British military spunk, some dude who fought off the entire Luftwaffe armed with only a pen knife and a picture of King George

Mail: American sportsmen, American politicians, Australian sportsmen, Australian politicians, old people who didn't achieve anything in their life

Mirror: Spiritual home of cancer mums

Times: Authors/artists who were of note during the 1950s but haven't been heard of in the past 60 years

Guardian: "Influential" musicians who didn't have mainstream chart success

Express: Sometimes pulls some real wild cards in the names it obits

The Sun: Anyone who worked in the WWF/WWE post-1990

Re Ilitch - the convo about him wasn't in this thread, but the Salvage Lot one. He was on my DDP shortlist as there were rumors he was in a very bad way, but I decided not to pick him since Jeff Moss, the main source of these rumors, has been banging the "Ilitch is dying!" drum for a few years now - on top of Sir Creep's theme leading me to assume he wouldn't be unique. Only he would've been after all, for the theme team wasn't properly entered!

Mind, I think shooting for uniques from 80+ names is a weak DDP strategy in this day and age anyway, between the improved research game among many of us and the Drop 40 bonus. He probably is unwell, but pretty much a "is he really at death's door or just old"? gamble.

"Now do you believe I was Ilitch?"

Sara Coward was my joker

That'll help slightly with the trauma of a few years of under-performance in this list. Four of my 20 already outta here.
