Does this get points for Les Mutrie?

KICK-OFF

Hull City 0-0 Nott'm Forest

After the usual pleasantries, a minute's applause for the late Hull legend Les Mutrie, and a loud, resounding roar around the KCOM, we are underway.

Hull City to kick-off. We're off.

Here we go.

Rangers wearing black armbands to mark the passing of Billy Simpson.

I think that counts @DevonDeathTrip due to precedence of the obit Billy Simpson got as shown above...

Absolutely a fair argument, but what an awful precedence.  That isn't a headline or a story, it's play-by-play.  How the hell is that an 'O' for a QO????  It's not a goddamn 'O'.
Just cuz a mistake was made allowing the first one doesn't mean we make the same error in perpetuity.  Does it?

It does seem a little tenuous given that regional BBC obits are not accepted.  Especially as England/N.Ireland/Scotland/Wales are dismissed as regional.

To win points, there must be the mention of a celebrity's death on a national online news source:

  • BBC*:
  • bbc.co.uk/news
  • bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts
  • bbc.co.uk/news/business
  • bbc.co.uk/news/education
  • bbc.co.uk/news/uk (that's UK in general, not it's component parts - Scotland, Wales, NI etc)
  • bbc.co.uk/news/world
  • bbc.co.uk/sport
  • bbc.co.uk/newsbeat
  • bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics
  • bbc.co.uk/news/magazine

Yes.

@Sir Creep I think you need to take another look at the rules above...

Oh, why not let's not stir up memories of that unfortunateness from January and wait for the referee's decision?

OK so by the letter of the law it counts but I don't think the inclusion of sport was meant to extend to live feeds

Hmm - well; the BBC have extended their definition of news sources of late to include live feeds and web based sources in their daily round up of the press on their flagship Today news programme. In other words mainly online sources but the occasional mention of the fact they "are reporting" when a story is breaking. I'd say this case above is 50/50 and there's some calibration of the rules to be done by those of us who see fit to run deadpools. I'll likely admit live feeds from reputable news sources for Deathrace purposes but if the only report is someone's Twitter account then anyone claiming the points is open to mockery for daring to suggest it's a reputable source. Or summat.

So if all the "circling the drain" folk went before January 1st (unlikely but not impossible) we'd have the following top four:

1.       David Quantick’s Showbiz Pals 199

2.       Golden Slumbers 196

3.       Thomas Jefferson Survives 190

4.       Still Life 176

With the following  working:

DQS – Bracknell, Elias, Gilbert, Nevin

Golden Slumbers – Bracknell, Cryne, Michael, Nevin

Still Life – Bracknell, Michael

TJS – Bracknell, Elias, Michael, Nevin

Gut (and almost certainly wrong) feeling: Brackers is an early 2018 demise with a circa 18 month longevity post-diagnosis.  Nevin is a fraudster lingerer. Cryne will go this month, likely Elias too.  King Michael's another November/December death, and Gilbert goes in December. He would have gone in February, but the weight of finding out DQSP is relying on him is too much to deal with.

Which would give us::

1. DQSP 179

2 Bert 176

3. TJS 170

Nearing the end of the year, here is an update about Drollercoaster's reamining picks:

*Nick Boles: He has beat cancer fair and square. Greetings to him. 3%

*Leah Bracknell (J): Utterly fucked, stopped treatment in March, constantly on drugs and still she manages to be active and, what matters most, alive. Still unlikely to survive the year, but 2018 is not too far. 75%

*Greg Gilbert: He's officially terminal with no hope, but still plans to see the year out. I feel like he will be a late December hit, in order to spoil everyone's 2018 DDP team. 70%

*Scott Hamilton: Cancer has not slowed him down. He's a rock and will beat his disease, continuing to have a normal life throughout treatment. Greetings to him. 1%

*King Michael: Well, you know, nothing is certain in this world, so I'll only give him 99,9999999999999999999% of chance to die in 2017.

*Simon Ricketts: Seems to be safe for this year, but still he is incredibly sick and could go at any moment. Cancer will get him while he is writing on Twitter, as it seems to be his only activity in life. 50%

I predict two more hits: Michael and Gilbert or Michael and Bracknell.

Well I'm certainly in no position to admonish, chastise, pontificate, or question the likes of the top 4 teams this year as we head down the home stretch.  I know and admit my flaws in this game.
HOWEVER -- I"m shocked and stunned that all 4 teams drank the kool-aid that is Leah Bracknell.  What did you read in December 2016 that made you think she was a goner?  I've been continual in preaching she 'ain't going anywhere' this year.  But again...obviously they know, and I don't, and it's part of my package of flaws I referred to earlier.
And with that, as when I scoffed at the idea of Fats Domino dying a mere 2 days prior to his demise, we shall be reading Bracknell's obit before Wednesday, no matter what I think or spew.

At this point, I’m honestly getting the Martin Crowe/Sam Simon vibe from her. Didn’t gcreptile say that he believed one of the public locks would make the year out? IIRC, he put Meads, Bracknell, King Michael, and Downie on that list (since Errol Christie already died at that point). With Meads and Downie already dead and King Michael likely dead in the next week or so, Bracknell will probably turn to be the public lock who sees the year out. Mind you, she’ll probably die in the next week now and render this post irrelevant, so you might as well thank me and Sir Creep for setting that up...

Bracknell seemed like a lock but via youth and other factors appears to be defying the odds to scrape by into another year. These things happen. I always thought she had a chance (maybe 20%?) to see the year out, but I'd rather risk getting no points from a pick on nearly every contender's team than risk falling 12 points behind everyone else!

The fact that three of us in the top four fell for Nevin is much more a grounds to mock IMO.

The online competition to guess which famous people won't make it to the end of the current year. If they're elderly, ill, or just live a high-risk lifestyle, stick 'em in your team, and for each one whose death you correctly predict, you'll score points. DDP was dreamt up in Derby, England (hence the name...) by Big Iain back in 1996, then was run from 2003 to 2007 by Siegfried Baboon and Rude Kid From 2008 to 2009, it was run by Octopus of Odstock , and since from 2010 to 2017 by The Man In Black...

Please fix the grammar here and install Spade to glory
