Saw a few things on there - like his kicking the 80 fags a day habit in the 70s and changing his name by deed poll to Michael Caine but nowt about his impending death by cancer.

Hmmm - the headline says he is suffering from cancer but nothing in the article suggests he actually is, it just sounds like he is talking about cancer prevention as lots of other people would too.

I know my days are numbered too, this is a fact that we all share.:D

Reet another ranter fire magnet so a punch will be pulled but...

$tephen 8onif@ce: dying from exposure to asbestos earlier in his working life and making the kind of public spectacle of it that draws tabloid snippets as and when. Sueing his former employers for starters (though maybe for enough money to run the crematorium for a full three hours on his own behalf - once it gets a hold of you that asbestos is a twat to shift)

Pioneering UK DJ Nicky Holloway, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, which has been removed by surgery. Putting this here in case relapse occurs in the future...

A name I should keep secret, but I want everyone to watch this person because I will be delighted if he gets a Telegraph obit:

Dee Thomas, "the father of flipping", 80, angling legend, has lung cancer and has been on oxygen for at least 5 years.

On the topic of Bart Starr (from the 10th death of 2017 poll), do you think he's deathlisty? He's guaranteed UK coverage, no doubt about that, and he has done more than your typical American baseball/football/basketball player. He's known to be in ill health as well, which is why I'm mentioning him, but do you think the committee will go for him? They did go for Joe DiMaggio after all...

Starr will get UK obits without a doubt but I don't think he transcends his field the way DiMaggio did. With the latter you have stuff like the Marilyn Monroe marriage, the namecheck in Mrs. Robinson...

Plus didn't someone create a thread on Bart Starr a year or two ago and it ended up being merged with the general US football thread?

Yeah, that was what I was kind of thinking as well. DiMaggio had a lot more going for him than baseball, so people can easily recognize him, where as I can't say the same thing about Starr. Still, I think he could be one of those cult names in the future like Jake LaMotta, where many people may not know who he is (even with the release of Raging Bull for LaMotta), but those who do will understand his inclusion on the list. Still think that's unlikely though.

I can't really comment on the Bart Starr thread thing, that probably happened before I joined the forum...
