He was a great man and historian, specialized in XIX century history of Italy (damned reunification!). BTW, he was on my shadow list last year, but I dropped him; it's the third person from my last year list to die without being on this year, the other two being Jacque Fresco and great writer Daniil Granin.

Please, no more deaths. It's been a while, so I hope it doesn't mean one is imminent. Lots of people here in their 90's and even 100's, so we're overdue. I hope we get less than one death per month. I don't want to see any records broken.

Ah. That's something that does need to be ingrained in my head. Either way, he's a long lister that didn't make the starting line, and probably would've been useful in a few dead pools that don't necessarily have strict QO rules.
