The Deathlist Cup

Also, I know Dead Cow was feeling worried about facing me, but I think your team is quite strong as well and it won't be an easy win for either of us.

Ah, I knew I should have done a second pass through of my team before submitting. Luckily I did include a second sub, so come on down former Iowa state senator John E. Tapscott.

Fixed a few bugs people have mentioned.

As for Riggs, I did confer (with myself) which precedent to chose from February, and decided that people found to be dead the previous month (February) on the 1st of the month (March) can be swapped with a sub (as happened for Carsten Mohren in Round 1), and those discovered to be dead after - as in the case of the 5th Feb discovery by one Gcreptile - are shit out of luck. So Spade's sub moves into play.

Stayed out of here just hoping for a nuclear War to maybe eek a draw, but, well in TDC, a pasting delivered.. Good luck all in the next round....

Congrats to Switch. Hard fought, the disallowed goal was a blow. If more of my picks hadn't survived the result could well have been different Saint.

Hm, how would I predict it.

Round 1: RadGuy

Round 2: Too close to call

Round 3: Heef

Round 4: Spade

Round 5: Chorizo (for revenge :evil2:)

Round 6: DDT

Round 7: tbh, Pedro

Round 8: gcreptile

Fair enough but Spade might - like - post a totally tasteless joke about Jewish people when he's miles ahead and gift me a run out in April.

Let's see if I can get a faster hit than Bernie Portenski this time.

The answer was yes!

@RoverandOut:

Yes, your team has a lot of potential. I could have picked people like Glen Campbell myself. Except for Bracknell, there's noone I'd say will definitely not die

Heef is the dark horse in this competition...

Glad I didn't pick Kurt Seddon and Tony Kaye...would have ruined it for both of us.

Funny...I thought "C. James" was Clifton James, turns out it's Clive James...

Oh, and my predictions (really hard this time):

Rad Guy

The Dead Cow (unbelievable that they both picked Cardinal Vlk)

Heef (by one hit)

Spade Cooley

Captain Chorizo

DDT (on tie breaker)

Deadsox

And I'm not commenting on my own match.

DDT still did not pick Nevin and went for Manson instead. Does he know something we don't?

That's not the one I find interesting, and that's all my poker face will allow me to admit.

Also, @gcreptile, struck me C James would be open like that hence trying to give first names when needed. (Or, err, when I could give them off the top of my head in some cases...)

Certainly think Heef is doing well, but there's lots of possible winners, including yourself. I mean, I'd have had DI as a banker Final 4 candidate, but TDC has put a lot of effort into their team - that tie is too close to call as it stands, imo.

All I'm going to say is if one of my 4 unique picks dies during the month, I'll be cursing a lot that I may be able to beat Chorizo. As far as I can tell, two of my uniques are 3 pointers, while the other 2 are 2 pointers.

If you feel like making an unfunny joke with bad grammar and poor math which also is offensive, please post your team for next month before you do so.

What can I say? Local media is very good at making news out of anything. Mainly as not much in the way of news actually happens here.

Anyway, much like you it's great to put an early one past the opposition goalie. Striking almost as the whistle was blown. Good to see the lads putting in the hard yards in a match situation and not just leaving it all on the training field.

Kind of you to say gc, but I'm under no illusions as to the task in front of me. You have a team packed with star names, whereas I've got some reliable pros who've been around the game for a number of years now and are just glad for a last tilt at glory. But what an exciting journey we're on...just a shame an unlikely victory pairs me with DI or TDC in a stinker of a QF draw!

Some post first round analysis.

There were 113 different picks out of 20 teams (220 team members) so about a 50% ratio.

Out of those 113 the 80 above were unique picks (70.8%).

Of the 113, 13 died (11.5%) although no QO for Aspin.

Of the 80 uniques, 4 died (5%).

At the other end of the spectrum 10 people were selected by 5 or more teams. 3 died (30%).

For round two

There are 83 different picks out of 16 teams (176 team members) so a 47.2% ratio.

Out of those 83 there are 50 uniques (60.2%).

There are again 10 people selected by 5 or more teams. One of these has already died.

The Top 10 picks for this month (and last month's ranking) as follows:-

1. Cath Nevin (6)

2. Downie (1=)

3. King Michael (7)

4. Lakovic (New Entry)

5.= Errol Christie (3)

5.= Leah Bracknell (4)

7.= Morano (New Entry)

7.= Rayya (New Entry)

7.= Dalton (New Entry)

10. Lisa Magill (8)

As well as the deaths George Bush snr dropped out of the top 10.

Unbelievable. I've been in the competition less than an hour and I'm already behind! So much for keeping it tight first half...

You and me both - but it's a long month and the world's only surviving u-boat captain might yet prove a killer pick for me

That doesn't, as there's no reference to him being dead written down. Yeah, I know, it's fairly obvious but you know, the QO restrictions ARE fairly lenient.

As shown by this being a QO! It also notes, at time of reading, that he died on 2nd March.

Points to be updated imminently...

Chase Simmons, a soldier famous for being in a coma, has died. Certainly famous only for dying, yet also a unique pick, so gets 2 points for Gcreptile. Something I am rapidly realising isn't much of a disincentive to pick Famous for Being Ill picks! I'll fix that if there's a 2nd Deathlist Cup...

Rad’s Die-monds in the Sky (Rad Guy) vs Bibliogryphon  0-0

The Dead Cow vs Tommy J’s Eleven to Heaven – Or Elsewhere for Nevin (Death Impends) 2-2

Heef vs Death Comes to Wembley (Garn2) 2-0

Maryportfuncity vs 101 Great Practical Jokes with Luciano Re Cecconi (Spade Cooley) 0-2

Captain Chorizo vs The GUN’11 (Grim Up North) 0-0

The Cooler Name (Switch) vs DDT 0-2

Deadsox vs Pedro67  0-0

Rover’s Rovers (Roverandout) vs “O” (gcreptile) 0-4

I was a bit surprised that nobody else picked him. I did not pick Lisa Magill because that 1 point wasn't worth the risk. Maybe the being terminal illness celebrities should get no unique bonus.

That's one of my thoughts, but it would be unfair to change the rules mid-competition. That, and a Jimmy Hill style re-jigging of the points system. Still, we live and learn. Or not, in the case of Mr Simmons.

O dear?

Plenty of time left. You make up for not many uniques with a number of tottering terminals, and March does have a reputation for being a fairly active DDP month.

PS David Burns is looking like a bad choice - Man City players don't look like they are going to visit so he probably won't be newsworthy even if he dies.

He's been visited!

Only problem is he was capable of chatting away and was at home. I picked him from a report where he was in hospital and not able to eat or drink.

If he doesn't die quickly he won't make the papers unless nothing else happens that day in Manchester.

And he's dead.

Although it seems no one picked him for this round.

Bloody City fan gets a mention but they totally ignore an armed robber. Never did like the Evening Nazi.
