Activists

Recommended Posts

I got tired of always thinking about where to put the activists, so here's a thread for them:

First entry:

Feminist Sheila Michaels, who spread the title "Ms." dead at 78 from leukemia:

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/jul/09/sheila-michaels-feminist-helped-change-the-world-with-ms-title-for-women

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-40528950

I guess you can also put your anti-rape campaigners, black lives matter-folks, and Ralph Nader in here.

Edit: Link fixed :P

Does this thread include the Civil Rights Movement leaders? I would say that they are higher up than the feminists but they might be sufficient for this thread.

The activists thread might be enough for Civil rights leaders.

Dennis Banks, Native American activist and co-founder of the American Indian Movement, has died aged 80 - http://www.startribune.com/obituary-longtime-american-indian-activist-dennis-banks/454089543/#1

Was on my longlist as he'd been in hospital for the past month or so. Seemed to be slowly on the mend after open heart surgery but turns out he took a very sudden downturn in the past few days.

Author, musician and environmental activist Katie Lee died Wednesday in Jerome, Ariz. at the age of 98 according to a press release on her website written by her friend, Diane Rapaport.

Lee grew up in Tucson and made a career as a folk singer and a Hollywood actress, but became attached to the Colorado River during a trip with a friend in 1953. She became active in the quest of maintaining a free-flowing Colorado River, and the elimination of dams.

Who's gonna risk imprisoned Bahraini civil rights activist (stage 3 colon cancer) Elyas Al-Mulla in 2018?

Already have (Rayya) Elias disappointing, don't need Elyas.  Sorry-arse theme team beginnings there...
