Anti-apartheid activist Denis Goldberg has died at 87:

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-52483924

He lasted quite long with lung cancer.

Right, the BBC are reporting that he died just before midnight on Wednesday, so in my opinion that is going to make him a Tuesday 28 April death.

Unless of course that is midnight local time in South Africa.

Important for the Hare's Pool here, anyone want to join the acclaim for an extra day? Everywhere else has him as 29th April death. Let me hear the roar of the crowd.

Actually, have I misdirected myself here? Is it he died on Wednesday, just before the turn into the 30th, or midnight on Wednesday which I take to be the turn into Wednesday?

Fuck it, I'll make it the 29th.

Jane Morrison, who was an urban environmentalist before anyone knew what that meant and a central part of the progressive movement in this city for more than half a century, has died at 101.

I guess there was a interesting poll option once, Civil Rights Big Six vs. Rivonia trialists.

Should be noted he's in critical condition.

He's 95 which seems to be a bad age for elderly African politicians.Mandela, Daniel arap Moi and Robert Mugabe all went at that age .

PS could this be the reason he's been hospitalised...https://www.timeslive.co.za/politics/2018-06-07-anc-stalwart-andrew-mlangenis-tips-for-a-happy-marriage-sex-three-times-a-week/

This was quick. Mlangeni joins other Rivonia trialists.

So, George Bizos is the last living figure linked to Rivonia Trials, right? Will turn 93 in November.

I think Andrew Mlengeni was the last one

Incidentally Mlengenis death confirms that Nelson Mandela was the longest lived of all the Rivonia Trial defendants by a few months. Mlengeni was the 2nd longest lived.

Mlangeni was the last defendant. Bizos is the last defence lawyer.

Brother of Medgar Evers, slain in 1963. Another icon lost a week after John Lewis.

Before every one here starts mourning, Evers was an avid Trump supporter.

Just read his bio. Though he spoke warmly about Obama, he had-em all, Independent, Democratic and Weasel-party.

Paulette Wilson a Windrush campaigner who faced deportation, has died. She was 64. Wilson had come to the UK from Jamaica in 1968, but her benefits were cut off in 2015. The Windrush scandal broke in 2018, when it emerged many children of Commonwealth citizens had been threatened with deportation.
