Australian gambling industry whistleblower Troy Stolz has settled the court case with ClubsNSW:

https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/feb/07/clubsnsw-settles-case-with-terminally-ill-whistleblower-troy-stolz

A DDP pick of mine, and while the Guardian has been on the case, I do wonder about the obit chances now.

Also makes me wonder if the settlement was finished because Troy Stolz is running out of time, with his end-stage cancer and all. The tweet in here doesn't have the best spelling, maybe a sign of failing health.

Seeing as all the lawyers and defendants are now deceased, here are the last living people associated with the Rivonia Trial:

Denis Kuny b. 1932 – defence counsel on the trial. Still enjoys a lot of coverage, interviewed as recent as 2019.

Abdulhay Jassat b. unknown – arrested and intended to be put on trial as a defendant, but escaped. Still making appearances a few years ago.
Moosa Moolla b. 1934 – arrested and intended to be put on trial as a defendant, but escaped. Still making appearances a few years ago.

Mac Maharaj b. 1935 – last living defendant of the Little Rivonia Trial, associated with the main one which preceded it.

F. W. de Klerk b. 1936 – latter President of South Africa who freed Mandela. Still quite active.
Ronnie Kasrils b. 1938 – latter Deputy Defence Minister who awarded the defendants medals for their activism.

Also can't find evidence of Lionel Stanley Gay being alive or dead. He was a defendant turned informer in the Little Rivonia trial so would have every reason to "disappear" afterwards for his own safety. Very little out there on him.

Moosa Moolla dead at 88.

Is he dead? The wiki shows him as alive, and googling doesn't conjure an obituary.

I can't establish his death on wiki or via any other source either!

Not so revealing update on the other Simon Cowell, the wildlife protector.

His foundation gets a grant, they quote Cowell from earlier in the year while he was apparently fine and "in denial":

Doesn't rule him out for later this year though.

DL Cup pick of mine at least once

Edit: nope, just a name I targeted in 2022 and 2023, but never used.  In the end he dies outside of Cup season.

Bindeshwar Pathak, India's "Toilet man", died at 80:

A campaigner for sanitation standards in India, which you know, is the real sign of a civilization. Initially made fun of, but extremely important.

To quote the article, "He founded Sulabh in 1970 and it became synonymous with public toilets and activism against open defecation in no time."
