Next Years Deathlist Creativity Thread

Recommended Posts

This may sink like a stone, but fuck it, I'm ugly enough to deal with that.

Right, every year around this time on (and earlier, and later), we get hundreds of posts about next years Deathlist top 50. Who should be dropped, who should be kept, who is a cert, etc etc. It's different from the "What do you think of the years list" because that's discussion after the fact, whereas this is all fantasy booking, for lack of a better term. Some of our own are keen to present entire lists of 50 names, listed out in great detail. Which are cool, but this clogs up numerous threads in the main Deathlist forum.

So I suggest a "one size fits all thread" for all of those fantasy Deathlist booking bits. This.

To start with the inevitable "Drop X" stuff, I'd say Javier de Cuellar. Boring pick. Very boring pick. But, he ain't going anywhere...

Right, as you were.

I mean, I can't be the only person who goes to check the Ideas thread only to see very very long lists of people. And they're cool enough,  it's fun to see how accurate Shaun was in bumping off half his AUgust 2016 list for example, but if they're all in the one place, they're both easier to find for bragging rights, and less cumbersome?

I dunno.

He's 97, so chances are he will be going somewhere before too long ....

I'm not sure I agree with disqualifying people solely on the grounds that they're "boring" though.

In recent years I have posted my Shadow Team to the Crowd Sourced Deathlist group and the after New Year put it in my sig. This thread might make it a little too easy for some people and it is not like the committee will take any notice.

I'd say it's just me being a grumpy sod, but then, we all know I'm a grumpy sod.

Actually, it might be a good idea to pin it on the deathlist forums page so people can hopefully have a good idea to actually post it there.

Maybe not, but they would make the list much more different because they are not from the UK or US.

Shane McGowan would be a horrible pick, as will most problematic drunk 55 year olds like Gazza. Please refrain from nominating any of them next year.

The big thing is trying to work out which legitimate British acting icons are now in the DL timeframe. Geoffrey Palmer's surely due a call up? Now Robert Hardy's dead, who else can look up disdainfully from a newspaper as well?

Roy Dotrice? Bernard Hepton certainly feels Deathlisty,  Peter "Jason King" Wyngarde is a possible too. Perhaps not an icon, but once seen, never forgotten...

Outwith actors, Cribbins and Doddy are certainly, though both still rather active.

suggestions for adding

Franco Zeffirelli -Turns 95 in February,Knighted British Director who is too ill to travel from Rome to Florence

Danielle Darrieux -Turns 101,one of France's biggest movie stars and would be a much needed underrrepresented Intl name

Colin Meads-Is 50/50 to make it out of the year in his fight with Pancreatic Cancer, one of NZ's greatest Rugby players ever. Way more deathlist apporriate name then this year's Errol Christie

Dilip Kumar-The 94 yo Bollywood Icon has spent the last few years in and out of the hospital, seems unlikely he would still be alive 16 months from now

Liam Cosgrove- The former Ireland Taoiseach turns 98 next year and looked corpse like his last public appearance

Stefan Karl Stefansson-If he is alive Jan 1 the Meme and child tv star will a top 10 pick in the DDP

Valentina Cortese-The 94 yo Oscar nominated actress is confined to a wheelchair and has only been in public once since the death of her only child Jackie in 2015
