Test for my rule of thumb that the older you are at the time of diagnosis, the faster you die....

That’s some enlightening shit right there, boy.

Jaci Hermstad, 25, "thriving horseback rider", diagnosed with a particularly aggressive form of ALS that could kill her ability to speak and breathe within a month:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-7010927/Woman-25-diagnosed-ALS-eight-years-disease-killed-twin-sister-6-weeks.html

She asked for fast-track access to a new drug and Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Steve King worked together (!) to do that:

So maybe she can become the Laura Barry of 2020.

And now Jaci is in hospice care, will the Daily Mail remember her?:

This week's picture of Ady Barkan, the progressive activist with ALS, possibly the most crucial living pick for my DDP team now:

Could be worse.... could be better.

She had a rare mutation of ALS called "FUS P525L". And the internet tells me of, at least, one other person who had it, teeanger Ben Merck, who already died in November 2019. It looks like an absolute and quick death sentence.

I don't really have a problem with her being posted in this thread, because she and her sister are unusual cases of the disease, and that is worth recording in a thread about that disease.

There's nothing in those articles that even hints that she was famous in any way though.  No comparison with Laura Barry, who was a jockey and therefore someone in the public eye.  So she owned a horse and enjoyed riding?  So do several of my neighbours, but they're not famous either.

Sean M. Healey, the co-chairman and former chief executive of Affiliated Managers Group, a $600 billion asset management business, has died from ALS. He was 59.

My money used to be managed by Healey, but the funds just sat there doing nothing.

Ady Barkan seemed well enough to go to one of the protests:

He was just way too active for me to choose him in the ddp this year, though I guess a late year downturn wouldn’t shock.

Nanci Ryder, a publicist who battled ALS and who has been mentioned in several threads the past few years, has died. She was 67. A DDP pick, too.

Doddie Weir was on the Scottish news to mark his 50th birthday, which is tomorrow. The report handily compared his appearance now to an interview of him last year. Overall not much decline and still walking/talking albeit slurred. Safe for 2020.

Would put Reptile top of the DDP. The one year he wasn't sweating over his exact 20 till the deadline...

The lack of any public appearance, especially when footballers-with-ALS are a regular interview topic for the broadsheets, made it clear he was going to be toast in 2020.
