Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Predictions

Ah, but play 100 people on the street "Wuthering Heights" and "Love Potion No. 9" and the results would be different.

It depends which street. Kate Bush paved the way for artists like Tori Amos, Jessie and even possibly Alanis Morissette. NME described The Hounds of Love as the only sexy prog rock album.

I suggest you listen to that one and reevaluate.

Yes she never really broke America partly because of her fear of flying but in the UK she is a household name.

He’s not on the list.

Admittedly a struggle with the website headlining. Oops.

Comprehending this from the wiki information pages 'Dire Straits' although some nominees such as Portishead ought to be on this.

Disgruntled.

S'cuse the crushing cynicism but...

Hall of Fame nominations overlap somewhat with Lifetime Achievement at the BRIT Awards in that the process of recognising greatness falls to industry insiders who tend to recognise a lot of greatness amongst those with lengthy careers and some serious doubts about their future bankability. Granted a few simply can't be denied but the handful of major artists - Beatles, Stones, Bowie - aside the timing often has something to do with the current state of a career. So - for example - The Eurythmics ill-fated comeback co-incided with a Lifetime Achievement Award and an album generally agreed to be very average. The Bee Gees Still Waters album and "Alone" single were current when they became Lifetime Achievers (and also gave it their best shot for #1 action - single hit #5 and album #2)

Portishead belongs more than 80% of who is already in.  Just sayin.

I actually just checked on Portishead: they technically can't be nominated until next year because their debut record wasn’t released until 1994, and they have to be nominated 25 years from their debut.

If the plebs at the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame still haven't gotten around around to electing Kraftwerk then Portishead,Massive Attack,Bjork etc won't get considered until 2040 or so

Hmm.. if the release of the "Debut" has to be 25 years in the past, then Björk is eligible from next year on... unless they count her 1977 album she recorded as a child. Then they were just stupid not to introduce her.

Which surely makes 2019? Which is not next year?

It’s next year their eligible to get nominated, they don’t actually get inducted until April 2019. I know, the rules should be a bit more clear...

Ah, I got you. Over-rated though, in my opinion.

Because they’re a pile of over-rated wank.

Over-rated wank often wins awards.

It might be because they - arguably - have a future and don't need the boost (regardless of whether they're wank)

This year’s nominees for the rock and roll hall of fame are:

  • Def Leppard
  • Devo
  • Janet Jackson
  • John Prine
  • Kraftwerk
  • LL Cool J
  • MC5
  • Radiohead
  • Rage Against the Machine
  • Roxy Music
  • Rufus featuring Chaka Khan
  • Stevie Nicks
  • The Cure
  • The Zombies
  • Todd Rundgren

Obviously it’s not taken seriously, but kudos for finally giving Roxy Music a nomination.

Why just Stevie Nicks what about the rest of Fleetwood Mac.

The Cure and Kraftwerk should get in.

The fan vote looks like it’s going to be one of Stevie Nicks (meh) or Def Leppard (not a fan at all), so it’s a race on which two or three others will make the cut...
