Imagine having a Rock Hall of Fame and not having put Thin Lizzy in the fucking thing decades ago. Ditto Motorhead.

It's the Hall of FAME, not the Hall of Pretty Damned Important. I may be from Detroit, but I'm going to say the MC5 have no business being so honoured. Meaning they're a shoe-in.  Thin Lizzy is the Irish clone of MC5.  So out.  Only one of this genre per year.
I'll take umbrage with msc above, because there's no way MC5 and Motorhead are both going in at the same time, and despite my earlier statement the Macomb County 5 deserve it well before Lemmy.
They shouldn't put bands in who are still relevant (read NIN).  But that isn't a litmus test, and NIN wildly popular and the 'new wave/punk' entry for sure (sorry Depeche Mode),
They'll put Whitney in as the black artist (the other two are a joke).  This also covers the token female artist, Benetar OUT.
Doobies are a lock.
Rundgren the exact kind of 'critics' artist that gets a nod undeserved.
TRex the best band in the lot, prolly no chance.  Like MC5, influential as hell, but weren't a commercial jaggarnaut.  That is important.  Kraftwerk checks the boxes.  But not with NIN going in.

IN: MC5, Whitney, Doobies, Rundgren, NIN.

It’s weird cause I never would’ve guessed that both Roxy Music and The Cure would be inducted into the hall of fame last year. So I’m not really sure what to expect this year tbh...

Also, they inducted 7 names last year

Yeah they induct 5-7 acts per year.  So if I'm adding a 6th above it's Kraftwerk.  I don't think they'll feel compelled to have 7 entries.

The 2020 inductees

T. Rex - 'bout time, frankly and a wake up call to the BRIT Awards

That said the classic four piece is down to one survivor - Bill Fyfield - aka Bill Legend, the drummer

Tony Visconti - producer of most of the hits that mattered and Gloria Jones (Bolan's girlfriend and a sometime member of the band) are both alive and obitable

The next few years of "eligible for RnR HoF" names (and presumably inductions) are going to be hell for us xennials in terms of making us feel old as fuck. Jay-Z is eligible this year. Eminem eligible next year. Missy Elliott in 2022. And then in 2023 Britney Spears, Coldplay and Queens of the Stone Age are all inductible.

It’s later than they usually do it, but the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame finally released the 2021 nominee list. Despite their usual shitiness, this time it’s quite the fascinating bunch, ngl:

  • Mary J. Blige
  • Kate Bush
  • Devo
  • Foo Fighters
  • The Go-Go’s
  • Iron Maiden
  • JAY-Z
  • Chaka Khan
  • Carole King
  • Fela Kuti
  • LL Cool J
  • New York Dolls
  • Rage Against the Machine
  • Todd Rundgren
  • Tina Turner
  • Dionne Warwick

Can't take a rock HOF that doesn't have Iron Maiden, Motorhead or Thin Lizzy in it seriously, ngl.

A lot of those names should be in there.

But as always Kate Bush for me is the most significant

The "rock" hall of fame is truly awful.  They'll put talentless pop whore Madonna and a bunch of rap acts in but Jethro Tull never even makes the nominee list.  Ridiculous

I haven’t fuckall clue who or what a Fela Kuti is.

Foo Fighters - Carole King - Tina Turner are 3 locks.

Jay-Z probably another.

Then it gets tricky.  Assuming they feel they must put a metal head band in, Iron Maiden?  Do they feel they must?

I love Kate Bush, but the RnR HOF is in Cleveland and I doubt any of the 500000 or whatever inhabitants would know her if she stepped on their foot.  So she’s out.

Didn’t we run Rundgren up the flagpole last year?  He lost, that’s it.  Out.  Go-Go’s>Devo (not in my book, you asked who gets in). And both >>>> than the New York Dolls.  But something to be said for dying at the right time (Sylvain x2) and bringing notoriety.

Foo Fighters

Carole King

Tina Turner

JAY-Z

Go-Go’s

New York Dolls

There are your 6 winners, assuming they have no limits.

Really? Fela Kuti is really fucking awesome, and I highly recommend that you check out his work. Here’s a colab with Ginger Baker to start:

Nor me.

My first thought was that she was a porn star (a cutie who enjoys the art of er.. fellatio) who had wandered on to the wrong list.

Other than that I agree with Biblio re Kate Bush.

If you want to feel old, next year Eminem is eligible for the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
