Who Should Be On The 2018 Deathlist?

Recommended Posts

Chirac is much more famous than Giscard d'estaing these days in the UK, too. The latter is sort of forgotten, for a big nation leader.

Oh, and the committee needs to bring Jacques Chirac back so we don’t have another Helmut Kohl dilemma next year...

Before Jacques Chirac, I think there is Valery Giscard d'Estaing, ex president of France and older than Chirac...

Don't know, Chirac is definitely unhealthier.

I say no to those above tbh. Those types of people are way too much of a risk to take.

Thanks! Some people still don't understand what that thread means.

Well, I like risk.

Besides, you need to look at the big picture. Correctly predicting the death of youngsters like Amanda Bynes or Artie Lange is exactly the kind of achievement that will generate massive media attention for the website and the community as a whole, because one thing you will never, ever hear is: "Woah! did you see that? these guys TOTALLY predicted the death of 102-year old Herman Wouk! WHAT KIND OF SORCERY IS THAT!!"

Agree with this user! I think the comitte should consider a few names ( around 3 or 4 ) of famous younger people with drugs or mental problems. Those could be consider a risk? A wasted  pot? Yeah maybe... but that would the same for all the 50 names on the list that didn't died at the end of the year! Kirk Douglas, Herman Wouk, BillyGraham, Zsa Zsa Gabor, have been on the list how many times? 11? 12? A certain on a young name will generate a massive media attention!

Somehow I think the deathlist forum is more for the people who go underground (pun unintended), so I don’t think they would want the media to have a lot of coverage from the mainstream sources...

As I mentioned in the Fats Domino page a few weeks ago, I think his songwriting partner Dave Bartholomew should be included onto the deathlist next year.

I really like your list, mine shares some similarities but I'm waiting for the end of the year to publish it.

Some remarks:

Aznavour is as healthy as a 93 year old can be. Still performing and touring all over the world. I saw him in Rome recently and I had the time of my life. What a legend!

Good call on Pelé, as well as the other Pope and French ex-President. Pelé has had  all sorts health problems since 2014 and has been surprisingly quiet for such a loud-mouthed know-it-all.

Steve-O seems to have cleared his act a little bit these days, but there is only so much credibility you can give to a guy who used to eat cow dung and stick rockets up his ass. Nice pick.

Interesting idea. Definitely obitable. As a one-hit wonder I think it's a borderline case. But the committee also chose other one-hit wonders like Harper Lee.

Funny how neither "Hal's" career nor that of "Dave" (also still alive at 81) went much further than 2001.

I mean most people have no idea the name or the face but that voice is Iconic.Guaranteed UK obit from every site and probably TV news coverage

Douglas Rain is an interesting one to consider. He had a very iconic voice that is instantly recognizable to any moviegoer who watched 2001, but he’s not in anything else in the mainstream. I know that Harper Lee is culturally significant because she wrote what is often considered to be one of the greatest books of all time. Rain has a very recognizable voice and certainly is well known for his one performance, but I’m not entirely sure if he’s deathlisty per say (though I am leaning towards yes). Still, I think it might be too early for him right now...

It's  per se.  Latin for 'through itself', or as we would say, in or of itself.

I suppose there's always Robert "Percy" Plant.

I have tickets to see him at the RAH in a couple of weeks so I do need him to hang on for a while.

Percy "director of Baghdad Cafe" Adlon is 82. Master P and Romeo both have the real first names Percy but I don't think they're likely to drop dead anytime soon. That might be about it for same-day obitting Percys.
