Who Should Be On The 2018 Deathlist?

Recommended Posts

Still think it'll be Bracknell or McCain. For several years now, No. 1 seems to alternate between a long-time stalwart and a terminal cancer pick.

The forum has had its say on Stiles in The Crowdsourced Deathlist and the result may surprise you later!

Hows that for a Buzzfeed-esque tease.

These stage 4 pancreatic cancer sufferers were literally too much for us to even in 2018

It happened since 2008. I originally thought it started in 2006, but I forgot that Castro (and he was nowhere close to having his huge 13 appearances then) was #1 in 2007, and he was thought to be very ill then. As for the list

2008: Charlton Heston (he's more alzheimer's, but I'm counting him)

2009: Ronnie Biggs

2010: Abdelbaset Al-Megrahi

2011: Ronnie Biggs

2012: Etta James

2013: Ronnie Biggs

2014: Wilko Johnson

2015: Zsa Zsa Gabor

2016: Martin Crowe

2017: Kirk Douglas

So I also suspect it'll be a new terminally ill case, most likely Bracknell or McCain...

2006 was Lou Rawls too, who announced he was dying at Christmas. Helpful chap.

2004 ends the sequence with JP2 though.

I know, but I didn't count that cause Castro, who only had 3 previous appearances in 2007, was number 1 then. That's why I started with 2008.

McCain will be the first to go in 2018

With Death Impends saying that he knows who a few of the new debutants are, it’s probably a good idea to lock this thread now, as any new suggestions are going to be useless.

Oh I don't know he could hold on for several months like Ted Kennedy did with the same illness.

McCain's always been unhealthy, battled cancer 3 times, and is 4 years older than Ted Kennedy at diagnosis. Kennedy lasted 15 months from May '08 to August '09. I reckon McCain will be short of that by around 2-3 months, about less than a year after diagnosis. I say May or June 2018, so likely not the first hit.

Since we are talking French names, what about Claude Lanzmann (1925- ) ?

Director of inarguably the greatest documentary of all time, and recently nominated for an Oscar, wrote and directed eight films on the Holocaust and Israel. He was friend to Jean-Paul Sartre, director of a prominent cultural journal and of course a controversial filmmaker. 100% Deathlist-y.

Well I'll be darned, how about that?

You'd rather have some old French guy in with no known health issues than the lovely Jill who has sadly been in a care home for 3 years now due to her advanced Alzheimers?

It is true that old people die but just picking random old people is just a shit way to select a death list.

The random old French guy has died today while the lovely Jill, who ain't so lovely anymore, is still coasting through life.

Douglas Rain is an interesting one to consider. He had a very iconic voice that is instantly recognizable to any moviegoer who watched 2001, but he’s not in anything else in the mainstream. I know that Harper Lee is culturally significant because she wrote what is often considered to be one of the greatest books of all time. Rain has a very recognizable voice and certainly is well known for his one performance, but I’m not entirely sure if he’s deathlisty per say (though I am leaning towards yes). Still, I think it might be too early for him right now...

Look, the Rain has stopped. https://leaderpost.com/entertainment/local-arts/stratford-festival-pioneer-douglas-rain-dies-at-90/wcm/71ee165f-de23-4b3f-937c-715ff091ef68

Maybe should mention he's a DDP pick, for @Spade_Cooley 's purposes.

It was on the crawler twice while I was getting ready for work. Then I didn't see anything afterwards. I'm assuming they realised the news they had was incorrect and pulled it.
