Got my first DDP hit ever today.  Patrick Cryne. Obviously a very sad case but here begins the birth of a legend -_- -cocky-

I'm sure Spade already has a note of those who have died but were not included in the first update.

I'm only including deaths from the point I started, otherwise I guess I'd just be encroaching, gotta start somewhere....hope this clarifies. ;)

Two big misses for me already Falkholt and Cryne. This is not going to be my year I guess.

You still got a very decent team despite not having those two. Top ten is very plausible imo.

No Eesti is right.  We have plenty of teams that are 3/4 ‘drop 40’ and that sucks imho because uniqueness should trump drop 40 by a mile.  It’s realky disappointing to see those bonuses equalized but I’ve climbed and descended that soap box.  Doubt I’ll play in future years til that clear debacle is addressed.  It just makes this DP the opposite of the Inverse pool for practical purposes.  It devalues research.  Who gives a fuck about popularity?  Not me.  All the DDP has become is an extension of the ‘Who Will Be in the Drop 40?’ Guessing game thread.  I’ll leave that to people who care.

Bibliogryphon's Bookworm Food has 18 unique picks but if they all go the way of David Fisher the it is all hopeless. Very worried about Kate Wilhelm.

My Unusual Suspects team has 13 Uniques including John Barton but I made a mistake I included William McPherson which Spade took to be the US novelist who died in 2017 when it was meant to be William MacPherson the judge who conducted the Lawrence enquiry. So I have Denise Bryer in my team. No complaints just an example of where your similar and obscure names can cause confusion.

Yeah, I will mea culpa to a lot of these errors, I'm looking at changing the application process next year somehow so these things get caught earlier... no idea how but I am.

From what I read on Masekela, he's still doing alright at the moment. But I think a turn for the worse is plausible...

Oh, Joey, Masekela took a turn for the worse all right....

I think the error was mine with the spelling so it is understandable.

Ah, it did. Wish I could've picked him in more dead pools. Oh well. On the bright side, I was able to put him as a replacement for a rejected pick in Alt Obituaries (potential duo with gcreptile?)...

I'd say sorry about the non-unique joker, but then, someone else nabbed Masekela, and besides, not my fault Derek Dudley couldn't hold on 10 more hours or so... :D

For me, he's a contender for most significant death of January 2018. What surprises me is that more folk didn't pick him...been ill for years, addictions before that and this last re-occurrence just smacked of the end for me.

Once again, RIP.

Was just looking through the bios for my theme team and I was surprised to find that I shared the pick of the American feminist philosopher Sandra Harding with Deathray's Corrie themed Cobbles to a Coffin.

I think Deathray meant to pick Sarah Harding.

Edit: Also, the bio has Sandra Harding listed as 20 years younger than she actually is, having been born in 1935 rather than '55 as stated.

Yes, would have loved to pick him (Masekela). But he just didn't make the cut though I have a feeling that he's not going to make it. But the statistics...

I had such a strong gut feeling (about as much as with Genesis P-Orridge), but my brain rejected him. Well done, YoungWillz, classy pick.

I was one of the brave souls that picked Spanky Manikan.  I did think at the time he was an obit risk but I loved the name so much I thought I would just run with it.  The obit rules add a dimension to the game but it seems vaguely unfair that Spanky doesn't score while Bobby Zarin does.  Anyhoo.....

Nonetheless Pity Da Foolz is off to a cracking start with 3 hits (Elias, Falkholt and Cryne).   Being Australian we had a front row seat to the death of Jessica Falkholt.  Absolutely tragic-it is mind-boggling how the bloke who was driving the car that struck the Falkholt's was able to hold a license.  She was incorrectly reported as dead a couple of times, once before Christmas when it was her sister that passed and again when they turned off the life support.  What is the rule that precludes Falkholt being eligible for the unnatural death bonus?

Regretting choosing Stefansson as my Joker.  Just saw on his Twitter feed that he got some "very good news" about his health (published Nov 30).  For his sake I hope it is all good for him (he seems like a good guy with a young family so I do hope it is all good for him)  but I think that would cruel my chances of a top 20 finish this year.  Sloppy research.

I'll take your word for it. Vodafone are blocking the DDP site under "hate, violence and weapons" so I can't check. However...

I did pick Sarah Harding! :P Thanks for removing the dead Doreen Keogh Spade, but can I have the right replacement cheers...

Really?  I am currently here courtesy of Vodafone broadband without let or hindrance.

It doesn't, however, allow me to view any images hosted on imgur.

I might well be wrong, but I believe someone said a while back that it's because the incident that caused the unnatural death happened before the New Year.

Presumably therefore it's denied because the bonus is intended more for the unexpected. I think that's fair. I have Jessica Falkholt on my team too, and certainly wouldn't have said no to an extra three points, but I understand and agree with the reasoning behind it.

Aye, precedent goes far back on that rule. Back in the OoO days there was a boxer who died in January of injuries suffered the previous December but carried no unnatural bonus points.

It's the automatically on parental filter on phones 4G that you need to go into a shop and say "I watch porn" to get switched off blocking it. Presumably you've got the broadbrand equivelant switched off. Managed to get on wifi and it appears I have indeed been credited with the wrong person.

iirc James Brady sealed the deal. TMIB did award points for that originally but then went back and decided to make the unwritten rule written?

His worse for sure but the music industry refers to it as "the ultimate career move" for very good reasons

When is the list updated? Weekly? Bi-weekly or at random?
