There's been an on-going debate about how steroid use in Hollywood and baseball was healthier than your pro-wrestlers because the fatality rates aren't there yet. Barry Bonds is only 53 though. Bit like these "how did Lemmy last so long? when he made it to 70 like a normal alcoholic.

I feel like either hollywood got it from wrestling or vice versa . Arnold having heart problems even back over a decade ago could be a give away he used them. Actors aren't dealing with the harsh wrestling matches and the impact it takes on their body so could be why fewer in hollywood die . Still to me taking steroids is like any serious drug use, you're playing with fire.

On the day one of the actors afore mentioned dies, this debate will trend on Twitter.

@the_engineer you are 10000% right: it is playing with fire

This is worse than I thought! :( They do s**t to get a part. This is a concern

well known for a while sad but hollywood only cares about making money and presentation . Its all fake. BTW one of the links says 20% I believe its way higher than that.

"when he made it to 70 like a normal alcoholic" My understanding is that health freaks may make it to 70 but alcoholics die already at 70.

From general experience 65-75 seems to be the average alcoholic tipping point. Not meaning your George Best boozers, I mean your normal day to day ones.

Mind you, my grandad lived to 73 on the whisky and Guinness diet, and outlived all of his teetotal friends. Non-drinking is clearly bad for your health.

What's that? You want a few more health tidbits from the obsessive sad anoraks helpful celeb autograph/photo hunting forums? (Collated from Fanmail, Marked Out etc hence lack of sources so take at own risk, though they do have good form...)

Linda Harrison, actress (Planet of the Apes) cancels appearance at Chiller Theatre Convention in New Jersey at the end of this month "on health grounds".

David Soul returns to events this month after missing a bunch last year. "He's been in poor health", apparently.

Despite looking very frail, forum favourite Burt Reynolds is apparently lucid, still doing fan meet and greets (as of last year) and makes sure he talks at length with all his fans.

I speak from a bit of experience when I say I think you've been rather generous with a 65-75 spread.  I'd knock that down a decade 55-65.  Keep in mind many drinkers smoke, and if they don't they're in a pub filled with smoke.  It's a toxic hell.  Add a shitty diet and I've seen 65 as the high end for most stalwart patrons.  My dad and granddad both drank themselves into the grave before 50.  Your granddad did well, my friend.

Alcoholics are difficult to judge. My uncle drank himself to death at 41 whereas I know an old drunk who used to drink with Oliver Reed who is 75 fit as a fiddle and nearly permanently pissed.

Famous alcoholics who lived 70 or older

_70 Lemmy

-71 Lou Reed

-71 John Le Mesurier

-71 Joan Sims

-72 Richard Harris

-73 Charles Haughtry

-74 Lynne Perrie

There are older ones like Peter O'Toole Tony Booth Elaine Stritch  Betty Ford Buzz Aldrin Dick Van Dyke but they quit many years ago/before they died.

In Buzz Aldrin and Dick Van Dykes case they just had phases were they hit the bottle and weren't life long hellraisers like everyone else you mentioned.

It really is down to the luck of the draw on how long alcoholic's live my Grandad died at 78 years of age and Drank nothing but Guinness for over 50 years, he was drink driving for most of them and somehow never got caught, he survived heart attacks and strokes due to his drinking and eventually died from Alcohol related Dementia. He probably got a few more years than he should as he lived in a home for the last 15 years of his life which slowed down his drinking a bit but he never stopped until the Dementia took hold at the back end. My Uncle is pushing 70 and he still drinks like a fish and his liver must be shot as he is turning yellow now.

On the other hand my Cousin who was also an Alcoholic and Drank to excess was found dead at 25 years of age due to his drinking and i knew another lad who was an Alcoholic and Died at 24, he drank and managed to stop but then suddenly restarted on a drinking session that lasted a week and he died by choking on his vomit as he tried to drink to the levels he previously had and his body couldn't take it.

I have just turned 33 and i've also had issues with Alcohol and to be honest don't know how i have survived as i often drank between 50 and 70 pints a week or drink up to 7 litres of Cider in a session, i could go days without a drink but would then drink between 30 and 50 units a session and pass out drunk. I have ended up in Hospital, lost Jobs etc due to my Drinking and almost died on several occasions as often i would drink the equivalent of a litre of Vodka in one or two hours and collapse as my body couldn't take the abuse, i have coughed up blood and all sorts but i never died and i did this for years at a time.  I'm ashamed of a lot of the things i did when drinking, thankfully i'm sober at the moment and have been for well over a year apart from a one day binge last September were i ended up in a mess again, thankfully life is better Sober than Drunk but i know i could slip back into old habits very easily as i have done before, i just pray i don't.

You DO understand all those celebs are celebs and have big phat celebrity wallets and purses.  My relatives and the hoi polio I sat day after day in pubs with, well there isn't a safety net like these people named above have.  I'll give you that rich people live longer than poor people.  Imagine that!

Ah Fergie, I'm glad you are keeping it together. I haven't given up the booze per se, I just don't get out as much as I used to for my own health reasons, so no reason to drink when socialising. Even when I'm over at a pal's house, it's tea or coffee for me.

I've had a couple of days out recently and a few mind, and boy does that hit you! But it's always been a going out thing - I'd never drink in the house, ever (Presbyterian upbringing maybe?).

I don't know how celebs keep it going without resorting to something - public eye, parties, marketing meetings, etc etc. However, when it's an addiction, like any other, it's got to be medically treated (and I don't mean in the George Best way where you fix them up to continue their addiction).

Thanks for the support it can be hard at times like on my birthday last week was hard but generally I’m not doing too bad and not wanting to drink as much as I use to , life is far from perfect now but it is a hell of a lot better than it could be. Also I agree YoungWills the hangovers get terrible as you age the last session I had it took me about 3 days to recover from the hangover it was awful were as in my younger days it would of barely of affected me dread to think what the hangover would be like in 10 or 20 years time

Aye, and Peter O'Toole was also such a creature - finally pegged out aged 81 (not long after the current Dr Who flashed her tits at him on screen!)

Takes a person of rare character to put an halt to any addiction - especially the grog as it's so 'normalised' by our society - every celebration, every life event - all revolving around alcohol ....if ye let it.  Damn good going Fergie  :)

I hope the current doctor uses that to distract Davros at some point in her tenure.

Tbh I recall the scene really clearly because it was gratuitous in an otherwise fairly impressive movie - if Dr Who bit that bullet you'd hope for a little more class.
