Ideas and Possibilities for 2019

Recommended Posts

Predicted winners:

1)Richie Overton

2)Shivakumara but it will be very tough

3)Obviously General Anh. He gets an easy bye to next round.

4)Dilip Kumar soon. Got it right!

5)Hard to call. Very very hard.

6)Leah Bracknell

7)Daniel Arap Moi by 2045

8)I firmly hope Brimley would come out as the winner, but money are on the Despot. Wrong. Brimley wins!

Could be a DDP Theme Team in the making, if one (read: me) wanted to.  Not sure there are 20 names though.
A cursory review of the players of Super Bowl I (Green Bay v Kansas City):
Bart Starr - GBay QB.  His medical condition has been posted about enough on these pages.  Is 84.
Willie Wood - GBay DB.  He has also been mentioned on DL.  Lives in care facility almost a decade now, rarely verbalizes, dementia etc.  I believe he's 82.
Len Dawson - KC QB.  About as lucid and 'healthy' as it gets.  But has had quadruple bypass heart surgery, a battle with prostate cancer a few years ago, a recent episode of shingles, some memory lapses.  Is 82.
Otis Taylor - KC WR.  Has been bedridden for years, on a feeding tube since 2016....in ill health battling Parkinson’s and dementia, and is non-verbal.  Is 75.

Those off the top of me head.  These 4 were damn great players of the game, and it's a crime that Taylor remains the only one not in the Hall of Fame presently.  Again, not sure you could come up with 20 survivors, what with 80+ years old being relatively ancient in NFL terms.  But this is a good start.

Ok, I'm so fed up with this immortal people out of there that I decided to do a sort of tournament between them. 16 people who have proven to be tougher than iron and they will face each other in an eliminatory tournament.

First turn (8 matches):

1)Li Rui vs Richard Overton

2)Balbir Singh vs Shivakumara Swami

3)Violeta Chamorro vs Le Duc Anh

4)Dilip Kumar vs Harry Leslie Smith

5)George Fernandes vs Monica Vitti

6)Nobby Stiles vs Leah Bracknell

7)Daniel Arap Moi vs Robert Mugabe

8)Girma Wolde-Giorgis vs Wilford Brimley

Winner of each round will advance in the tournament.

Who are these people? Never heard of them.

I do hope your 29th through infinity posts are better than your 28th.  Hang around a while, you'll know these people better than some of your family members scattered across this globe.

I invented sarcasm, but fwiw it's like pornography, I can't tell you what it is but I know it when I see it.  I'll go ahead and give you the benefit of the doubt there, Kilty.  Consider this my sarcasm-free 'welcome to DL' post.

Going by his Instagram posts “Snoop Dogg” seems to chain smoke dope and cigars - and that’s just the stuff we know about! He looks gaunt and all raged out to me. I’d say he may be an early pick :smileyd:

A name I had forgotten but that would be a mistake.  She had her 15 minutes of fame this past Spring.  She would certainly get a NYTimes obit, but rather uncertain her story would have staying power across the Pond with each passing day.

Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt now has a little bling to go along with the international attention she gained as the near-centenarian team chaplain during Loyola-Chicago (Univ) Rambler’s run to the NCAA Final Four.

Schmidt, who turned 99 in August, sat in a wheelchair courtside for the presentation.  The Catholic nun became a celebrity last March for her fandom and for praying before each game for her Ramblers — and for their opponents.

Furthermore, charon, not only did you swing and miss on the football/basketball thingy, your video doesn't play.  Strike two.

(figured we'd go with baseball now...)

Swing and miss a boxing term.

Nowt to do with me not watching a youtube link I post. I get the link, and post without watching more than not.

The preview is good enough for me, so SC takes a time out for 5 in the self righteous bin.

Obit worthy?

She'll get an obit. My guess is the Daily Mail or The Sun will be the first to report it

Nope. He'll outlive her.

Jimmy Carter, almost by default.  Unless somebody assassinates Donald Trump, I can't see anyone else going before the one-time peanut farmer.
