Three of those would be massive news stories and wouldn't leave much time to cover the implosion of the Conservative Party and the mid term elections. We could get all of those but I would guess no more than half

My current analysis

Kirk Douglas 50%, I think he'll see 2019 now

Leah Bracknell, 70%, now realistically possible see'll make it to 2019

Hernan Wouk, 66%, 103 and on Oxygen, could go anytime

Olivia De Haviland, 41%, currently dealing with the courts, won't go soon but undroppable

Duke Of Edinburgh, 29%, undroppable but looks healthy going by recent pictures despite numerous illnesses, should see 2019 comfortably

Betty White, 11%, no imminent danger but undroppable

Linda Nolan, 20%, but must stay for 2019 deathlist

Javier Perez De Cueller, 50%, undroppable

Pierre Cardin, 50%, undroppable

Stan Lee, 40%, getting tougher for him now

Stirling Moss, 71%, very ill, could go anytime

Doris Day, 20%, no imminent danger but undroppable

Bob Dole, 42%, no guarantee he'll see 2019

Bob Barker, 38%, no guarantee he'll see 2019

Prunella Scales, 31%, 2019 will be her first real test if she survives this year

Jimmy Carter, 19%, should be dropped for one year

Leslie Phillips, 56%, not great, could go anytime

Jill Gascoine, 76%, winter will have a big say in her survival chances

Vera Lynn, 21%, no imminent danger but undroppable

Robert Mugabe, 33%, too evil to be dropped

George Bush Sr, 64%, winter will have a big say in his survival chances

Charles Aznavour, 10%, should be dropped for one year

Henry Kissinger, 24%, undroppable now

Honor Blackman, 12%, should be dropped for one year

Dick Van Dyke, 4%, one of the worst picks ever

Stanley Baxter, 21%, worth considering for 2019 list

Valery Giscard d'Estaing, 49%, worth another appearance next year

Mel Brooks, 9%, no imminent danger but undroppable now

Pope Benedict, 55%, winter will have a big say in his survival chances

June Brown, 8%, stupid pick

Hosni Mubarak, 18%, too evil to be dropped but worth sacrificing if 2018 finishes on a low number.

Sean Connery, 9%, won't go for a while yet but as a Bond he must never be dropped in the wake of Roger Moore dying while not on the list.

Louis Farrakhan, 17%, will almost certainly be dropped for 2019

Denis Norden, 69%, very ill, could go anytime

Ian St John, 12%, should be dropped for a couple of years

Jimmy Greaves, 38%, ill enough to be undroppable now

Valerie Harper, 34%, worth another appearance next year

Clive James, 45%, think he'll see 2019 but not 2020

Ronnie Wood, 4%, will certainly be dropped for 2019

Olivia Newton-John, 51%, I have a gut feeling she'll be Olivia Newton Gone before the end of the year

Joni Mitchell, 15%, should be dropped for next year and then see what happens

Paul Gascoigne, 11%, I think he's fine until at least 2020

:D

What nonsense!

Lets try two ways of using your data to produce the remaining hits.

1) Applying the average % to the remaining candidates - that gives a further 14 hits before the end of the year - I think not.

2) Everyone greater than 50% dies, everyone less than 50% lives (I'll let two of the three 50/50 ones live) - that gives a further 10 hits before the end of the year - I think not.

The 2018 list has now overtaken 2013 which resulted in 13 hits but is still two hits behind 2015 which resulted in 14 hits. So I think the range 12-14 is where it will finish.

Boring fact alert ! Don't know if anyone's noticed  but this is the first  time in deathlist history  there's been a  hit in as many as 8 of the first 9 months., June being the odd one out .

We are still behind all the years that delivered 14 or more hits but we are ahead of the one year that delivered 13. I am thinking 13 will be the final tally.

Just guessing

Herman Wouk

Leah Bracknell

Vera Lynn.

Still think we can finish with the second best record. I can see Bracknell, Wouk, Moss, James and Newton-John snuffing it before 2018 is out making it 15 deaths.

Into November, my current analysis on the 40 remaining candidates.

Kirk Douglas - I think he'll see 2019 but no guarantee. 30%

Herman Wouk - 103 and on Oxygen, could go anytime. 66%

Olivia De Haviland - should see 2019 despite her current court cases. 29%

Duke of Edinburgh - should see 2019 comfortably, undroppable though. 15%

Betty White  - no imminent danger but a lock until she dies. 13%

Linda Nolan - still in good shape despite her terminal cancer, worth dropping for one year. 15%

Javier Perez de Cueller - recently the subject of a death hoax, no guarantee he'll see 2019. 50%

Pierre Cardin - very quiet of late, undroppable. 20%

Stan Lee - 2019 will his first 50/50 year if he sees out 2018. 30%

Stirling Moss - very ill, could go anytime. 60%

Bob Dole - no guarantee he will see 2019. 34%

Bob Barker - recently hospitalised with serious back pain, a lock until he dies. 26%

Prunella Scales - her Alzheimer's not yet too advanced, worth dropping next year. 20%

Jimmy Carter - still in good health, still young enough to be dropped for just one year. 14%

Leslie Phillips - very ill, could go anytime. 50%

Jill Gascoine - has had advanced Alzheimer's for a while, could go anytime. 50%

Vera Lynn - no imminent danger but you can't drop a centenarian. 26%

Robert Mugabe - too evil to be dropped. 20%

George Bush Sr - very ill, but may just make it to 2019. 40%

Henry Kissinger - still in relatively good health but a lock until he dies. 17%

Honor Blackman - worth dropping next year. 12%

Dick Van Dyke - one of the worst picks ever. 5%

Stanley Baxter - very quiet of late, might not be enough room for him for the 2019 list. 14%

Valery Giscard d'Estaing - still makes public appearances, worth dropping next year. 15%

Mel Brooks - no imminent danger but undroppable now. 9%

Pope Benedict - think he'll be alright this year but 2019 will be 50/50 for him. 21%

June Brown - latest comments on her Deathlist thread could be an indication that she will return for the 2019 list. 13%

Hosni Mubarak - too evil to be dropped but worth sacrificing if 2018 finishes on a low number. 11%

Sean Connery - will be on the list every year from now on even if he makes it to 120 due to Roger Moore being a huge miss. 8%

Louis Farrakhan - worth dropping next year. 10%

Ian St John - worth dropping for a couple of years. 9%

Jimmy Greaves - ill enough to be a lock until he goes now. 22%

Valerie Harper - very quiet of late, hard decision to keep for the 2019 list. 15%

Clive James - no guarantee he will see out the old year. 19%

Ronnie Wood - will certainly be dropped for 2019. 5%

Olivia Newton-John, I have a gut feeling she'll be Olivia Newton Gone before the end of the year. 25%

Joni Mitchell, should be dropped for next year and then see what happens. 10%

Paul Gascoigne, time is starting to run out for him, definitely one to keep for the 2019 list. 10%

40 left ranked from most to least droppable

Ronnie Wood-Swing and a miss from the committee this year. Sod's law really, people from iconic 60's band seem to go the year's when no one takes a gambit on them

Louis Farrakhan -One of the healthiest people on the list and still giving sermons to his congregation, could be here in a decade

Dick Van Dyke-Maybe the healthiest name on the list, year's away from being an undroppable name

Linda Nolan-Despite being terminal in remission, most likely a 2020-2022 death

Joni Mitchell-Could go tomorrow but maybe she has 5-10 years left.Despite being my favorite person on the list, imo think the committee can risk dropping her for 2019

Valery Giscard d'Estaing - Much as I like seeing more non  Usa/UK based names, there's at least a dozen Geriatric head's of state who are older, more ill and at least as or more notable that are worth a spot in the top 50 next year ahead of him.

Mel Brooks-He might live to 120,not a risk if dropped next year

Jimmy Carter-Unless his cancer comes back aggressive he is not in immediate danger. If  QE II can be risked  being left off some years so can he

Ian St. John-Seems to be a tough old dude, probably one of the safer names to drop next year.

Henry Kissinger-Despite being an evil sob and one of the more iconic name's on the list he still appears frequently in public and as a very good bet to see 2020

Sean Connery-Can see why some might want to keep him on the list until he dies, really though outside of Van Dyke,Wood,Farrakhan he is probably the safest bet to see 2020 of the names on the list

Honor Blackman-Can see the temptation to keep her until she die's, but really one of the healthier names on the list

Stanley Baxter-A slightly better gambit then Brooks, but still a bit of a gambit pick despite being in his 90's

Prunella Scales-No gurantee she is in the late stages of Alzheimer's,probably could afford to drop her next year

Valerie Harper-Sods law,if the committee drops her then she is dead before Easter,if they keep her she see's 2019 out

Paul Gasciogne-Always like these trainwreck picks, and he is definitely on the clock the next 3-5 years. Can see the benefits of dropping or keeping him next year

Leah Bracknell-She might just manifest herself into being alive in 2020. Worth considering as a drop name

Jimmy Greaves-Can see the committee going either way with this name. I would drop personally even if ill, he is not too ill and also not Pope Benedict/Prince Phillip level to keep on the list being only kinda illish.

Olivia Newton-John-I guess she could skyrocket to the top 10 or be dropped entirely depending on late in the year health updates.

Stirling Moss-Those in the know seem to think he is a goner soon. Not familiar enough with Autosport fame to say whether he seems like a droppable name in 2019 or not.

Betty White-Look decent enough at the Emmy's,can see the justification either way with dropping her in 2019 or keeping her

June Brown-As I always say smoking kills, this young lady is a decent bet to go in 2019

Hosni Mubarak-Gut feeling say's he is 2019 or 2020 death

Pierre Cardin-Probably too old/big of a name to drop

Jill Gascoine- The Monica Vitti of the UK who seems to have had Alzheimers forever ,can see why she will probably stay on this list until she is dead

Stan Lee-The family is vulturing for the inheritance now, definitely a strong death possibility in 2019

Doris Day-At one point the biggest female movie star on the planet, too old now to drop ever

Bob Dole--Looks a lot worse now then he did a year ago, would not bet on him being alive a year from now.

Bob Barker-In and out of the hospital in 2019,maybe not one of the bigger name's on the list but too ill to drop

Pope Benedict-Not sure if he his health is being exaggerated but probably undroppable at this point

Leslie Phillips-One of those how he is not dead yet names.

George Herbert Walker Bush

Robert Mugabe-Posting a lot less lately, think 2019 is his year

Prince Phillip-Don't think he is one of the top 25 most likely to die but still a good enough pick and probably too important ta miss

Herman Wouk-103 and needs an oxygen tank.Anyone picking him this year is a bit unlucky he hasn't come through with a hit

Kirk Douglas

Javier Perez De Cueller-Competing with George Bush to star in a remake of Weekend at Bernie's. Undroppable name

Clive James

Olivia DeHavilland

Vera Lynn-May she have a life that lasts long as Jeanne Clement

Hm, if we’re analyzing how we feel about the surviving candidates:

Kirk Douglas - Well, he seems to be wheelchair bound right now, so not a bad bet on him dying within the next year, though if he makes it to 2019, he would be on more Deathlists than Clive Dunn. :o

Leah Bracknell - Well, I’d say she pretty likely to see out the year. As for whether she’s a good call for 2019 or not I would wait to see how the trial goes, if she’s doing well, she’s one to drop, if news suggests otherwise, well, that would be a much harder call...

Herman Wouk - A centenarian with breathing problems. Can’t seem to understand how he lasted this long.

Olivia de Havilland - Undroppable, but will likely see out the year

Prince Philip - It’s weird, the health updates for him seems to swing differently, and I’m not sure what to believe entirely

Betty White - Looks pretty good at a recent public appearance, but tbh, I wouldn’t drop her at this point. Maybe a lower rank, but I think she’s on till she drops

Linda Nolan - Cancer isn’t going to kill her anytime soon. She should be fine for a few years barring any new updates.

Javier Perez de Cuellar - Was a victim of a death hoax recently. I don’t care what the committee does with him, though he’s probably on till he dies partly because he reached that point that feels like they’re on for the keeps

Pierre Cardin - In a similar boat as JPDC, minus the death hoax.

Stan Lee - Has had his roughest year yet with all the lawsuits he had to go through, and frankly it was quite sad to watch, though at least he seems to be somewhat better now. But he should be on till he drops

Stirling Moss - Has retired due to poor health and has been silence since. Won’t be long now imo, though who knows if it’s this year or next.

Doris Day - Agreed with Chorizo, too old to drop at this point, even though she could live for a few more years indeed.

Bob Dole - Yeah, he’s looking much worse in the past year, and probably won’t see his centenary

Bob Barker - His recent hospitalizations seem to suggest that he won’t see his centenary. One of the more drastic changes of someone going from decent health to poorer health

Prunella Scales - There doesn’t seem to be anything that suggests that she could dropped in the near future. I think she’s okay to drop

Jimmy Carter - Yes, he’s in good health, but considering that they have gotten every president since the deathlist began (and that there’s a good chance of them missing Bill Clinton or Trump imo), you can see why he would be an annoying miss.

Leslie Phillips - Has been pretty quiet after the old and frail news. Definitely dead by 2020 considering that the quiet frail health folk seem to die then like Sallis and Norden

Jill Gascoine - Seems to have articles reminiscent of the likes of Tony Booth at this point, and frankly it’s quite sad to read

Vera Lynn - Seems fine at the moment, but there’s only one way she’s exiting the list.

Robert Mugabe - Again, he’s probably on till he drops, and who wouldn’t celebrate when this former tyrant goes? Though it would be a sad day for the deathlist

George Bush Sr - One of those “how is he still here?” names. Surprised that he hasn’t ranked higher since his debut tbh

Henry Kissinger - Again, I think he’s reached that age where he should be on till he drops despite being active, though who knows what the committee will

Honor Blackman - I think she’s doing well enough to be dropped next year despite past health problems, though could easily be next year’s dies right after they’re taken off names

Dick van Dyke - Too active right now, although in a few years time he’s on till he drops imo.

Stanley Baxter - Been very silent all year, but due to choice of candidates, I think he may be a difficult drop for them

Valery Giscard d’Estaing - Seems well enough at the moment, could be dropped for a year or two

Mel Brooks - Personally I think he’s too big to miss, but I completely understand why the committee is likely to drop him next year

Pope Benedict - Whether he’s actually quite ill or not is a bit iffy, but he’s one of those too big to miss names

June Brown - I guess she seems a bit frail, but truthfully I don’t really know if she gets dropped or not

Hosni Mubarak - He could easily see a few more years imo, although him dying within the next year wouldn’t shock either. Probably on till he drops though

Sean Connery - Now here’s an interesting one. He could die soon or last a few more years since there are some conflicting reports on his health. On the one hand, he’s only 88 so could last a few years off the list. On the other hand, could easily see him be part of the next generation of deathlist legends.

Louis Farrakhan - I think he could be dropped since he doesn’t seem that unhealthy

Ian St John - Had cancer, seems to have gotten better without telling us, probably could get dropped next year without worry

Jimmy Greaves - He does seem ill, but honestly, I think he’s one of those on a year off a year type names, like Stephen Hawking was.

Valerie Harper - Has been quiet for about a year now. Who knows what she’s suffering from right now. Another bout of brain cancer? Dementia? One of the big question marks.

Clive James - Tbh, it does seem like the end of the road is coming to him soon with breathing and sight issues (and I’m not just saying this because he’s a plausible DDP victory route for me). Still not sure if I would carry him over on my DDP team or not, but should definitely be on the deathlist till he dies

Ronnie Wood - Cancer is in remission, still is touring with The Rolling Stones. An easy drop

Olivia Newton-John - It could be argued that she’s too big to miss, with her having a cancer that is actually terminal. I think she could last a few more years, but I also think she could be dead within the next year as well. Think she should see 2019 though

Joni Mitchell - Somehow I don’t think she’ll be here in 2 - 3 years time, though will probably be dropped off the list due to choice of candidates

Paul Gascoigne - Tbh, he does seem to be going the George Best route, but Best lasted till he was nearly 60, so I would drop him for a few years at least (and I probably wouldn’t put him back on unless he gets cancer or is in hospice, but that’s just me).

If the thought is to drop Gazza from next year's list, who should be the token 'not old and dying'? I'd suggest Vervoort if there's no surprise development on her during the next two months - for all that she walked back her claims of 'getting ready,' I don't think she's long for this world IMO.

That said, I could see it being a question of if she's famous enough...

from a foreign point of view, this list is quite strange because there's some big big names (Douglas, Connery, Mugabe or Bush) and some other names that are almost unknown (at least in France)… this ones are :

- Linda Nolan (don't know is she's well-known outside of the UK honestly)

- Jill Gascoigne

- Stanley Baxter

- Ian St John

- Jimmy Greaves

- Valérie Harper

- Clive James

- Paul Gascoigne

- and Evan Bracknell (when she dies, there won't be any obit in France for example)

I'm not saying that these are names to drop for next years because the list is a British one and those one are may be really famous there but this is just an idea which crossed my mind so…

Yes, but we need a obit in the UK and not a obit in France, Iceland or Azerbaijan.

yes, I feel the same way. Especially selections like Leah Bracknell, Clive James, Linda Nolan are crap. typical UK-specific picks, but from a worldwide perspective, they would definitely not be deathlisty enough. I would also like more celebrities outside the UK or USA, at least there are enough potential names on the rest of the world.

Well, that may be the current rule.
But of course you can also change and develop existing rules, dont you think so?

No.

Doesn't work that way.

We don't have a say on the Main List, accept that , play the other pools and abuse the fuckity out of other posters who deserve it.

Employ the mantra of "Inform, Entertain and Slaughter".

yes, I feel the same way.

As someone who isn’t British, I don’t take names that I don’t know about and just immediately call them crap picks. Instead, I look them up and read about their lives before making a final judgement (and truthfully, a lot of them are fascinating). I don’t mind if they are not in your taste, but I absolutely despise people calling a pick bad just because they don’t know about them. And like they said, we don’t have a say in them, only the committee does...
