Inverse Dead Pool 2018

Yeah. I picked Aretha quite high on the basis I had her in my DDP team.

Unfortunately, the main DDP team is doing rather well this year, so it's a win win situation. Or win lose. Or something.

Glad to see she's higher on your list than mine :P I didn't check other peoples lists, I wonder how this will change things? I chose Aretha even though she was in my shadow deathlist because she was sort of a wildcard - I didn't actually expect her to die! She's a treasure.

The people on my Derby Dead Pool team of #1 hitmakers who are also on my Inverse Dead Pool team – the ones who weren't properly imminent but were at least theme-team mortal – are Doris Day, Vera Lynn, and Olivia Newton-John. But, wisely, not Aretha Franklin. (Or Chris Rea, for that matter, who I maintain has been dead since 2017 and it's just that nobody's bothered to phone his agent and check.)

I'm currently 7th place. 5 of the 6 teams above me have Aretha. I like this thread now.

Honestly I'd forgotten who I'd picked and where I'd placed them - given that apart from a few names, the list was basically pure guesswork with no research whatsoever, it was a good run, I guess!

There’s a shakeup coming with Aretha’s death...

Aretha Franklin's demise rearranges the scoreboard, with the majority of teams (including the last couple of straddling clean sheets) feeling like a Chain of Fools for picking her. R-E-S-P-E-C-T to the eight teams who opted otherwise - particularly theoldlady, who takes the lead and must Feel Like a Natural Woman at playing this game.

Just like Chuck Berry, Aretha's done for me! Ha!

Ah, well, still 4 months and a bit to go....

It will be an exciting finish. In my opinion, the biggest weakness of theoldlady's really good team is Simon Ricketts, and machotrouts has John McCain. But they are both placed very low in their teams.

A fine illustration of the power of a good landmine to upset the order of things.  And with 16 teams less than 20 points short of the leader, this could still go lots of different ways (although I expect one of the current top 5 teams will take it).

Here's a little lesson in deadpooling
Six of you will go down in the scoring
If you want to be the Inverse number one
You shouldn't have picked Stefan Karl Stefansson!

All but two teams anticipated that John McCain would Arizone out this year - the least popular pick in collective score (though Leah Bracknell and Marieke Vervoort are on one less team). machotrouts and time were the only teams maverick enough to bet on the survival of a glioblastoma-addled octogenarian, which has proven a decision as unwise as making Palin your running mate. Both put him very low, meaning there's very little impact on the scoreboard, but it could still prove a crucial death as one of the affected is the current runner-up.

This is not a game that incentivises risk-taking. I just figured McCain had months to go when people seemed to think he was imminent in January, and took a chance on him scraping 2019 to look like the forum psychic.

Didn’t pick Denis Norden here. My small chance of a victory continues...

A bit more than half of our participants thought Denis Norden would be alright for another 365 nights. He instead takes his longest pause yet, moderately shaking up the scoreboard, and while theoldlady stays in first place, she's dropped just enough to have to share the podium with John Key. Also, ten teams now place below the guy who used Random.org to decide his names. My word...

=1.    John Key    9
=1.    theoldlady    9

Never thought I’d rank this highly in the inverse pool tbh. Not to worry, someone like Val Kilmer will probably drop me to the mid table mediocrity that I’m used to being in this pool...

I'm still expecting Leah Bracknell at least to add to my random points total some time this year. We shall see...

If Terry Jones should pass away during 2018, will the Unknown Man be down both minus 8 points AND minus 12 points?

Thank you for noticing and mea culpa not catching that much earlier. I gave it five minutes of thought and decided, because TUM entered a sub, to remove the second Terry Jones and put Bob Barker in spot 25. This has zero impact on TUM's rock-bottom score as everyone below Terry Jones #2 is still alive.

Just out of curiosity: if there was still a tie for pole position at the end of the year, how would the winner be decided?

Whoever has less money in their bank account? Whoever's last pay-check was the lowest? Whoever is in the most university debt?
