Alt Obituaries Deadpool

Recommended Posts

Well, a lot of our number play this game, and Gcreptile currently leads it on Day 3 after Thomas Monson (related to Gorilla, right?). Given the Rotten Dead Pool appears to have gone the way of the dodo, and this pool gets talked about a fair bit - I found it via DDT - I thought it could have its own thread? Where we cheer on any of our lot against the (nearly) unstoppable Mr Tierney and co. The points system is similar but different to the DDP, and their criteria is somewhat America, but it's all good fun.

Home Page

Standings

Who's Dead so Far

Deathlisters playing in 2018 include Gcreptile, deadsox, Joey, me, Jireomon, Death Impends, Toast, and others I don't immediately spot.

In 2017, Deathlister JiroemonKimura won, ending the reign of terror of Gerard Tierney, who won the 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 editions.

Good luck everyone.

PS We should have started this thread in December and swamped it with DDPers but hey, always 2019, right?

My alt.obituaries deadpool name is Keister Button. I had the first ao deadpool hit of 2017 with Milt Schmidt. I would've had a fantastic year if I could have figured out how to have more than one Daily Double, or a list entrant die on her birthday. Last I saw, I ranked eighth when 2017 ended.

A friend and I have a recurring aodeadpool wager for each hit one has over the other (e.g. she has 13 hits, I have 9, I pay her $20 for 4-hit difference), so I have a nonagenarian bias.

My 2018 list:

1     Ahern, Lassie Lou (film actress)
2     Allen, Marty (film actor, comedian)
3     Angell, Roger (writer, editor)
4     Angley, Ernest (televangelist)
5     Bracknell, Leah (UK TV actress)
6     Cardin, Pierre (fashion designer)
7     Cary, Diana Serra (film actress)
8     Champion, Marge (actress, choreographer)
9     Dale, Dick (guitarist)
10    Downs, Hugh (telejournalist)
11    Ferlinghetti, Lawrence (poet)
12    Franklin, Aretha (singer)
13    Fujimori, Alberto (former Peruvian president)
14    Gascoine, Jill (British actress and novelist)

17    Gleason, Steve (NFL athlete)
18    Greene, Shecky (comic)
19    Jean, Grand Duke of Luxembourg (Luxembourg royal)
20    Johnson, Katherine G. (NASA Mathematician)

25    Lange, Artie (actor/radio personality)
26    Littlefeather, Sacheen (Native American civil rights activist)
27    Maren, Jerry (“Wizard of Oz” Munchkin)
28    McCain, John (US Senator)
29    Nordine, Ken (poet)
30    Quivers, Robin (radio personality)

Not sure what you mean since none of the above teams have her. If you were already a returning competitor you would have gotten a good hint in the mid December call for entries email she'd not have counted. It said something like "no cancer bloggers, no Paralympians who race in wheelchairs..." under fame criteria.

Torva Messor’s original list had Vervoort on it, but I’m guessing he changed his picks afterwards to his truly accepted picks, making my comment afterwards irrelevant...

Oh, he will 100% nab you Alt Obit points, it's a good nab. I didn't even think to test that.

Next year, pick ALL the shortlist and see which ones sneak through, is my life lesson here!

One's that didn't make it past the editor in 2017: Ami Brown, Steffan Lewis, Carmen Franco (just as well), David Cervinski, Vanessa Goodwin, Bernie DeKoven (sadly), Angus Sinclair, Vanessa Lafaye, Dean Francis (that surprised me) and Rayya Elias.

Steffan Lewis didn’t make it through for you? Because he did make it through on my team oddly enough.  Maybe it’s because I put him in as a Brexit spokesman and not an MP...

Hmm, that's a sod. I think descriptions are quite important. See sneaking Matt Cappotelli on the list as "former WWE wrestler". It's technically true, but the gulf between him and say Hogan is the gulf between John Benoit the dog catcher and John McCain!

I got a second place on the AO Deadpool many moons ago and keep meaning to enter a team again. However I prefer the near absolute freedom offered by the DDP when it comes to picking candidates, rather than having them subjected to quality control when they are submitted.

Incidentally, there used to be a team on the AODP called 'McKie'.  That'll be Andrew McKie, former obituaries editor at the Daily Telegraph and, I'm pretty certain, at least an occasional visitor to this site.  I once volunteered to write an obituary for the late philosopher Michael Dummett, a unique pick for McKie, which was quite a strange experience...
