Figured he had his own thread by now.  Here 'tis then.
So before everyone (me included) starts chiseling a date on his headstone, the Travis County (TX) Democratic Party just held a benefit for Overton for his years of service.
Did the 111-year old cigar-smoking veteran attend in person?  Let's go to the video...

People have said before he'd drop dead as soon as he got his own thread. Are you trying to get a sneak advantage in the Cup? ;)

Unless you're talking about living men in the United States.

Then yes, he is the oldest.

Oldest living American war veteran and Oldest living man in the USA. He fought in W.W.II.

We'll never know but...

I wonder if any of the Japanese killed in operations Richard Overton took part in would have outlived him if they'd survived the war

What makes him remarkable, like many African Americans of his generation, is that he served in the military for a country that would not let him sit in the front of the bus or drink at certain drinking fountains. His kind were hung from trees from time to time.

Who the fuck cares?

Not I.....

Sooner the better in fact, and hopefully will take the rest of his Nazi bastard cadre with him.

So what, he's unique.  But I'm glad the two of you condescended that I don't know the basic threads on this site, didn't take those into consideration, and flippantly chose to create a new thread for a VERY popular DP pick on these boards.  I assure you I did.  He deserves it.
Under that nonsensical nonsense we have both a thread for Hollywood and American Sitcoms.... yet a Charlotte Rae thread is born.  Etc ad nauseum.
Don't worry your pretty little head over this one, he won't be the oldest once he's deceased.  In which case the thread can be deleted for its gall and inaccuracy.

Good news! Not only has he turned 112 but he is also now fully verified by the GRG. That means he's officially the oldest living WWII veteran, the oldest living man in America and the 2nd oldest man in the world (there's a German who's probably older but he doesn't want to be verified).

There's some pictures in that article from yesterday, but I'm still waiting for video footage of him having a "funky good time". Mainly cause it's funny that a 112-year-old's got a better social life than I do

OH FFS I want one of those Overton '112' jerseys hanging in the background the last couple seconds of the video.  WANT!

An extra $60k has been donated to him on GoFundMe since his birthday party. That covers his care for 4 months, so he's safe from a Violet Brown-esque drama until at least the end of September.

He had pneumonia for the 4th time, but it was nothing.

Quote

He was battling the tail end of another case of pneumonia over Memorial Day weekend, so he wasn't available for a new interview.

"It looks like he has about beat that," Volma Overton said of his cousin. "Fortunately, Richard isn't in a major need of anything. He only takes a few pills and hasn't really had a major health problem."

Hopefully he's looking forward to his 120th birthday.

I read in the over World`s Oldest thread that someone stole his identity and money.
