How can he be Britain's top spy if everyone knows who he is? I can just imagine him trying to drop off some microfilm at a dead letter box in Sevastopol, and one of the locals saying, "Hey, you're that Britsh secret agent I was just reading about".

American Cold War spy John Anthony Walker, serving a life sentence, is suffering from stage 4 throat cancer if his Wikipedia page is to be believed. He's currently incarcerated at the United States Medical Center for Federal Prisoners, which does suggest he might not be in the best of health.

Eileen Nearne, MBE, a modest war hero who never spoke publically about her spying exploits (even long after the event) has died alone in Torquay. The local council will be organising her funeral, in the absence of any next of kin.

George Blake in reasonable shape for an 88-year-old according to this report, still rooting for the commies.

Albert Bachmann, Swiss spymaster during the cold war died last month in Cork, RoI.

He seems to have lead an interesting life.

More from George Blake, as he approached his 90th birthday.

Meir Dagan, the Israeli soldier and spymaster who was widely credited with setting back Iran’s nuclear program through covert and daring operations as the director of the Mossad intelligence agency from 2002 to 2011, died on Thursday in Tel Aviv. He was 71. The cause was liver cancer. Mr. Dagan underwent a liver transplant in Belarus in 2012, but he faced complications after returning to Israel.

Heard on the grapevine that former MI5 whistleblower David Shayler is currently very unwell. However, I don't know if his ailment is of a physical or mental nature. Given that he has form for dressing up in drag and proclaiming that he is the reincarnation of Jesus Christ, one suspects that it would be the latter, but worth keeping under observation just in case.

Werner Stiller, Stasi officer who defected to the west, disrupting the East German spy network and later forged a career with Goldman Sachs, has died aged 69.

He left his wife and kids behind but helped his mistress and son escape. Go figure.

They don't need their own thread.  However, there's a spy thread they could quite happily be relocated to.

You've renamed 'spy corner' as 'Sergei a Yulia Skripal'.

All spies are now Sergei Skripal, which, given he's likely fucked, is great news for those of you with George Blake in your DDP teams!
