Sorry, I forget you were a dinosaur. Here's the spotify link in the mean time;

It's not the dinosaur thing (I mean, we - as in the whole happy little family - have Spotify); I'm wanting a version I can play on the radio so blag/buy is always the dilemma. There are about two dozen acts I''d want to actively support at all costs by way of contributing one way or the other. Half Man...and indeed the whole Probe Plus empire have yet to splatter their wares all over a platform like Bandcamp.

Cool, looking for one of the regulars to list all the new folk name checked within so we can shortlist them for when they suddenly snuff it out of the blue in 2019.

Living People Mentioned

  • Stuart Bone (Bladderwrack Allowance)
  • John Mcnamara (The Announcement)
  • Jean Greenhowe (Harsh Times in Umberstone Covert)
  • Monty Don (Every Time a Bell Rings)

They'll need to watch their backs. Captain Bligh, Zorro, Capability Brown and others mentioned but suffer from being fictional or dead.

Arctic Monkeys - Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. Not bad. Four out of Five is superb; by far and away, I feel, the best track on the album. But that aside, one must also give credit to anyone who names a song 'The World's First Ever Monster Truck Front Flip'.

It's a shame every other song starts to sound the same after the tenth time you've listened to the album it loses it's appeal, it's banal elevator music mostly and lyrically shoddy in comparison to past works.

On the other hand one of those HMHB songs - What Made Columbia Famous - could easily apply to Alex Turner, he needs to sober up and go back to making decent music not last shadow puppets fantasy whackshit crazy stuff.

Agreed. Aside from Miracle Aligner, I didn't really get most of TLSP's stuff.

The posts on this thread are eclectic enough it might be worth linking up a decent blog site I've mentioned occasionally.

Mr Weird and Wacky tends to post stuff that lives up to the name and has two linked sites in which he trawls rarer stuff (especially keen on Aussie punk of late)

Sorry Cat, wouldn't be sober enough to crash one of those either.

* earliest memory of Oban.....

1985, up in a mini bus to play darts and basically all day sesh.

Into Aldo's the bookies, Grand National, Maori Venture 28/1 £20 e/w, pumped out in the 4th round I think at the darts, collected a wedge and went home with about a hundred quid, ie whit I left the house with.

Also, got thrown out of Ollie's for singing The Sash lol.

Vague memories of straight vodka all the way down the road and in house for 8am.

Avoided Oban for years after that, until going to Mull or Barra or Tiree.  And one of those times got stopped on the main drag twice in 50 yards by barmen I knew from Campbeltown and Edinburgh lol.

Then got on the Tiree ferry, on a Sunday, to be telt 11am for booze.

It was another campbeltown ex barman :D , winner.

* normally calmac open the bar as soon as you cast off, no matter the time.

Tom Jones strutting his manly stuff whilst four conspiciously stoned hippies attempt to hold it together in the background. HTF CSNY are all still alive as I post this near 50 year old clip remains a tough question to answer. Young in particular appears to be orbiting the proceedings more than taking part

That's the first time I've seen footage of the enigmatic bassist Greg Reeves, rumoured to have been only fifteen when was hired by the group - and fired not long afterwards when he proclaimed he was an Apache witch doctor.

On the day after a storm's kicked through, a good slice of Bressa Creeting Cake - their wonderful xylophone and bass enfused Palm Singing will help me remember the glories of Summers past.

Then, I think I'll give On Avery Island by Neutral Milk Hotel another spin.

Oh yes.

I went to see the Eagles a few years ago and it was deadly dull.  The only one with a spark in him was Joe, but he was worth the price of admission.

Aye, good call - one thing I liked about TYA and their take on psychedelia is that it always had a fair chunk of working class London grunt about it. You suspected their love of a beer and a bong was about equal
