YoungWillz 21,067 Posted July 9, 2018 Subjecting myself to the ridicule of Listers, here is my team of the tournament: Thibaut Courtois - Belgium (GK) Pepe - Portugal (DF) Hector Herrera - Mexico (DF) Mario Fernandes - Russia (DF) Mateo Kovacic - Croatia (MF) Xherdan Shaqiri - Switzerland (MF) Aleksandr Golovin - Russia (MF) Kevin De Bruyne - Belgium (MF) Juan Fernando Quintero - Columbia (MF) Antoine Griezmann - France (FW) Carlos Bacca - Columbia (FW) Almost picked Schmeichel as goalie and Raheem Sterling as FW but they were shaved out. Picking no more than two players from the same team, who is your team? 1
En Passant 3,743 Posted July 9, 2018 Might have a look at this tomorrow, looks like fun. cba right now. But I'll tell you one thing for nowt.... Pepe - Portugal (DF) Is not going to be in it.
Deathray 2,941 Posted July 11, 2018 Wondered whether having 24 hours extra rest might give Franc/Belgium and advantaged in the final over Croatia or England. Based on past results it does not. 1st Semi-Final 2014 (Germany) Italy (2006) Uruguay (1934) 2nd Semi-Final 2010 (Spain) Brazil (2002) France (1998) Brazil (1994) West Germany (1990) Argentina (1986) England (1966) There was no semi-finals in 1974 and 1978 due to the bizarre system used. In 1970 the semi-finals were played at the same time. 1950 didn't have a semi-final. 1954, 1958, 1962 all saw semi-finals played at the same time. 1982 saw both semi-finals played on the same day. Deathray 2,941 Posted July 11, 2018 Anyone fancies a quiet drive, this evening might be the night to do it. Roads expected to be quieter than Christmas Day from 7pm-9pm (possibly 10pm if it goes close). https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-44792984

YoungWillz 21,067 Posted July 11, 2018 I'm interested to see how England/Croatia pans out. Croatia are the consummate "winners on penalties" of this tournament...so England can't let it get to that, I'd say. If England are 3-0 up at half-time, they will win. Anything else, and it's a lottery imo.
msc 18,480 Posted July 11, 2018 Croatia will be shattered after 2 pens wins, and some of their top players are suspended or injured. England will win at a canter. 2-0/3-0. Go nuts. Then lose in a really really dull final to France.
Spade_Cooley 9,541 Posted July 11, 2018 Croatia to win 2-0 in normal time, Jordan Henderson to become a national pariah.

Could see Jordan Pickford making a few rookie errors tonight though, he looked like a second rate Gazza the way he was losing his head at points in the past few matches. It's odd how he manages to pull out insanely good save after insanely good save and then have a proper go at his defenders like it went in.
Sir Creep 7,070 Posted July 11, 2018 Glad to see that great Frenchman UMTITI score. Jean-Claude Umtiti, I think it is. Lest we forget his brother Pierre Umtiti, father Jacques and mother Adelie. It's all fraudulent, innit? How could we not feel for generations of Fernandes's growing up on Russian hillsides, watching their boy Mario playing for his nation's team? Just how DO these people get assigned to a country?
Spade_Cooley 9,541 Posted July 11, 2018 Umtiti's family emigrated to France when he was 2. Fernandes is the usual Brazilian bodge job of "player not good enough for the Selecao living five years in a foreign country".
Toast 16,155 Posted July 11, 2018 Driving round my village earlier on I only saw one England flag. Even the pubs haven't bothered this time. Maybe people feel it never did us any good in the past so it might be a jinx?

Paul Bearer 6,109 Posted July 11, 2018 An Englishman and a French man are enjoying a beer together in the pub... "who are yiu playing tonight" asks the French man. "Croatia" answers the englishman "oh, good luck" says the French man, "we've got them on sunday"! 1

charon 4,943 Posted July 11, 2018 3 goals in open play in 6 games, football's coming home all right. Reminds me of a decade ago when the huns hit Manchester in the Final of the Europa. Walternachio'd their way to the Final, then got skelped. Hopefully the crowd trouble will be similar....
