Turns 89 next month and has led a stressful political life. No noted ill health but spinsters tend to go downhill quickly. Que me being told that she shouldn’t have her own thread ....

She noted last year she has "cardiac issues".

Also in 2009, she had renal failure, nearly died and wound up requiring open heart surgery.

Yeah she has had serious heart problems and used to be a heavy smoker for many years.

I remember she was in a coma after heart surgery about 10 years ago and it was not looking like she would pull through.

Looking very well! She's as sharp and as eloquent as a near-nonagenarian as she ever was. Amazing lady.

The greatest Speaker of modern times. Dread to think what she privately makes of Bercow although she'd be too professional to ever say publicly.

Betty Boothroyd chilling and watching the debate to crown her latest successor as House of Commons Speaker.

Our Betty is still alive, still calling a spade a fucking shovel when needed, but as a woman with a history of cardiac problems about to turn 91, she should be more on our general radar. imo.

Made another appearance in the Commons last week to speak on the Internal Markets bill.

Watched that speech last week when it was on, in absolutely blistering form. Force of nature, imagine her as headteacher of the current Tory cabinet. She'd have them crying for their mummies.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: she’s amazing. Fabulous form here.

She's had her Covid vaccine and doesn't look at death's door to me. Leave off for 2021 I reckon.

DL back to their old approach of picking random old biddies of minor note to get a list that looks interesting but has no chance of beating last years record then.....
