The poppy appeal isn't about honouring the fallen. The people who gave the orders couldn't of give a shit who or how many died . This is about pushing the victors side of the story and never forgetting that we were the good guys etc. I'm sure alot of innocent germans died thinking they were fighting for the right side. Both sides german and british soldiers were the victims, the people who view the soldiers as cattle and send them to die are the bad guys.

Something i wasn't taught in school and i found out myself through study is hitler most probably hated Jews because a largely Jewish led and funded communist takeover during german revolution happened and it crippled germany. The build up and start of the german revolution most probably stopped german victory in world war 1 and Germany accepted a stalemate when it had the upper hand. The weimar republic also brought the great depression and record unemployment to Germany. It also abolished the german royal family and a Germany run without outside influence. This was most probably the reason he hated Jews not because he was rejected by a Jewish girl or a Jewish guy rejected his application for art school hogwash. Also hitler many times tried to make peace with the UK but the UK was always pushing for war. If you see in link below who are the belligerents and leaders of the rebels most are jewish .

Funny how many comments about the Second World War totally exclude Soviet Union. Germany had already lost the war by time of the D Day landings, was just a matter of time but Europe had to meet Soviets in Berlin or they might just have kept going.

30 - 40% of all casualties in WW2 were from Soviet Union (depending on whether you are talking military or all casualties - some 20 million Soviets out of a pre war population of 189 million - over 10% of their population) way more than any other country including the 'losers' Germany.

That compares with 450,000 people from UK or about 1% of pre war population - hardly a scratch on the surface in comparison.

The Eastern Front was brutal.

In terms of capturing the correct tone of dignity and remembrance for the centenary of the WW1 seems to have passed by the authorities in Brussels responsible for the 'Mannequin pis'.

I had heard that the 'attraction' was underwhelming but I was not prepared for unbelievably tacky.

Commemorating the fallen with the stench of charred flesh has never been so affordable.

Yes,  walk down narrow streets in Brussels looking for it only to discover it's about 18 inches tall and 20 feet in the air..."So that's it?". Mind you the little mermaid is hardly the Grand Canyon either.

Hard to believe they have managed to make a pissing statuette even more tacky, however they do appear to have succeeded in some style.

You know what? That appears to my eyes to be even more tacky than the aforementioned statuette. Remarkable.

I can nearly see my kitchen table again, having delivered most of the loaded poppy boxes.  Still got to sort the school one, but no rush as it's half term.

They are getting a box of DIY poppies which the kids have to put together themselves, which they should enjoy.  Also poppy pencils, sharpeners, erasers, rulers, bracelets, pin badges, balloons etc.
