John Williams

Recommended Posts

Thread for John Williams, born 1932, not just any composer, but possibly the best-known film composer of all time  (Even Morricone barely a tie?).

He scored Star Wars, Jaws, Close Encounter of the Third Kind, three Harry Potter movies, Superman, Indiana Jones, Home Alone .. and many more...

Sadly, he's been recently hospitalized and was forced to cancel an event:

Note the ominous title: "A Celebration of John Williams In Concert".

Concerts for November also cancelled.

Also...hey committee!

My sister has had him on her DP team for two years running.  She figured the stress of his latest score would take him down.  LOL.  Hey, maybe too much foresight but she's onto something.

One of my cousins is involved as well.  It's a family affair haha.  We only have about 16 people total and hey, I'm actually not winning this year (so far -- 3rd place).

I have one of my Junior High school teachers voyeuring our DP page on FB, he would be around 70.  Doubt he will play but he finds it interesting.

Quite chatty by looks of it in this new interview, but on the audio he sounds quite rough.

Combined with infrequent reports of health issues effecting his work now, one to keep a close eye on.

Autograph hunters have been told he is no longer signing fanmail or doing any other similar inquiries. Read into it what you will.

Certainly sounds a bit grim. I know Episode IX was the last Star Wars film he was doing but, according to this from a couple of months ago, he is still down to score Indiana Jones 5, which is currently filming - but I'm not sure if that's based on recent information or the original announcement of that fact from 2016.

Long time John Williams music editor and film score composer in his own right Kenneth Wannberg reportedly dead aged 91: https://musiquefantastique.com/genre-film-music-news/rip-ken-wannberg/

IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0911194/

I'm not going to mention his credits, the article and IMDB is enough. And a name probably unfamiliar to most of us.

Recent interview with Spielberg for The Fabelmans

He seems very sharp minded and physically ok for a 91 years old ! Could easily pass for 81 !
