This legend known as Stan Lee  hasn’t had the best year this year. Will he finally be disassembled early next year?

Dissambled two weeks later...

Death Slam Form Guide #15

norman-dewis.jpg?itok=G8GVX13N

Norman Dewis

Hits 98 in December and no stranger to a race having - amongst other motor sports outings - been part of the infamous Le Mans 1955 event; and perilously close to the worst accident in the history of motor sports. Norman's main day job from the mid 50's to mid 80's was as Jaguar's chief test driver; a position that makes obit coverage a shoo-in as and when. The man's hold on life and health continues to astound others. But it might make him a good cheeky pick for poolers in 2019.

5 - Each team must nominate one member as a joker and the joker scores double points on death.

Just to clarify, so will the joker be one of the 20 people on our list? Or will it be an additional person, i.e. a 21st person that we'll add to our list as a joker?

Joe Vento is shown on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in September 2011. (Luigi Scorcia)

He's 100. He's got Pancreatic Cancer. He's Joe Vento. But don't bet your house on him because his mum made it to 107.

One of the 20 - I'm assuming that rule is fairly clear and in the last ten years nobody has entered a team of 21

Noel Conway

Mega-tragic this one; terminally ill and just lost the final stage battle of his right to die campaign. Others in the same situation didn't hang around too long afterwards. Still a month to go until he's eligable for points - will he make the start line?

Lawrence Ferlinghetti

2018 has proven a lackluster year for new 100 Club alumni. 2019 has a reasonable amount of interesting potentials to clock up a third digit, among those Lawrence Ferlinghetti, publisher of Allen Ginsberg's Howl. Will the oxymoron "centenarian Beat poet" become reality this upcoming March, or will his City Lights go out beforehand?

Looking at the two posts above - it could just about be the same guy!

Deathrace Form Guide #20:   Pat Robertson

56ce49fe3b251.image.jpg

The televangelist owner of the CBN Network and presenter of The 700 Club is looking for a new challenge.  And Deathrace 2019 could be just the ticket.

  • Pat Robertson is 88 years old
  • Pat Robertson ran a failed presidential campaign in '88.

One would be remiss to think it mere coincidence.  That's right boys and girls, it's a sign from the heavens.  How clearly do the Gods have to say it?!

P.J. Proby

US singer who's spent the bulk of his life resident in the UK. Fleeting pop success was sustained by the attention grabbing trick of having his tight trousers explode on stage on a regular basis (each one, apparently, an accident). Something of an Alex Higgins/George Best character and actually older than them both (just turned 80). Final gig this year, and a history of heart trouble and fondness for the sauce. Q/o a certainty unless his death corresponds with a calamity of 9/11 proportions.

Maria Giuseppa Robucci

Affectionately known as Nonna Peppa this young lady is Europe's Oldest Person. If the same fate awaits her as every other person who held the WOE distinction, then she might be a solid addition to your 2019 Race Squadron.

9 (or was it 10) picks dying before the starting line must be some sort of record right?

Resisting failed. I'm not about to leave her out in the cold. She's in it as well.

Yeah, to be fair I'd list her numerous times too, just for luck.

Deathrace Form Guide #25:   Marsh Pratley

Sir Creep was fishing around for a winner during the 2018 DL Cup competition, and hooked into British Casting Champion and owner of Orchid Lakes in Oxfordshire, as well as the founder of Anglers Against Cancer, Marsh Pratley.  In Spring 2018 Pratley discovered he had stage 4 lung cancer and knew he 'didn't have much time left, at best I've got a few weeks'.  Well by the looks of things, Marsh has discovered a holistic way to battle back lung cancer; basically giving it the middle finger.  If this photo of Mr. Pratley taken a few weeks ago means anything, he's going to smoke and drink his way into 2019, but then again, who among us isn't?  Don't get lured in by pretenders, let Marsh Pratley make you the big fish in the little pond.

I.M. Pie

For those looking to build a team with solid foundations the durable archictect has credentials (b.1917), and despite phenomenal good health for much of his existence he's defying the biological odds with every breath, packing obitable credentials way beyond those demanded of our annual low-hangers fest hereabouts and seeing his dead pool popularity continue to soar with every passing year.
