Theatre

Recommended Posts

In the character actors thread I have posted lists of London Evening Standard Theatre award winners but I was trying to find a place for the other theatre creatives (writers and directors). I did think there was a Luvvie thread but apparently not so here we are with a list of the ten longest surviving Playwrights. With a very interesting name to start us off.

BEST PLAY (Writer)

1957       Roy Lawler (b. 1921)

1967       Peter Nichols (b.1927)

1972       Tom Stoppard (b.1937)

1974       Alan Ayckborn (b.1939)

1976       Howard Brenton (b.1942)

1980       Ronald Harwood (b.1934)

1983       Athol Fugard (b.1932)

1985       David Hare (b.1947)*

1986       Christopher Hampton (b.1946)

* Co-author with Howard Brenton.

This can include other people associated with the Theatre such as my DDP pick Shakespeare academic Stanley Wells, Producers, designers anyone of prominence connected with the theatre.

musical theatre - I know there is a Broadway thread but would the West End fit here (I am not an expert on musical theatre (understatement))

Nothing you mentioned couldn't have been posted in the Broadway thread.  It's where I would have posted anyone associated with the live stage.  We've been doing it since it's inception.  Not sure what head of a pin you're dancing on, I just don't get it.  I'm sure the 'need' exists though.  *shrugs*

Could it be because Broadway only happens in NY? Maybe the two threads can be merged and it get renamed to theater or something like that?

Broadway is THE Great White Way I think some purists would not look well on me polluting it with discussions of the Hexagon theatre in Bolton.

No one has even attempted to answer the question about what the fekkkkk is the difference between theatre and broadway.   Pure thread whoring.
But no one is more willing to listen to some dumbass and give said dumbass a lot of respect than Sir Creep, and maybe he will grow in knowledge.

Not a chance in hell.  But let's try something new.  Provide a logical answer in the space provided.  And GO: ___________________________________________

You don't have the Broadway in the UK, for starters.

So the next in line is

1992: Ariel Dorfman (b. 1942) Death And The Maiden

FUCK! I've been sitting on that one for the Windy Pool!

Edit: This means as regards Directors the next in line is:

1992: Simon Callow (Musical)

1993: Stephen Daldry (Play)

Oh wow, that's a big one. :(

Just Alan Bennett left now, I think, from Beyond the Fringe.
