Guess The Song

Yes, I have no recollection of it either.  I thought I vaguely remembered something called 'All I Want For Christmas Is A Dalek' but I must have confused it with something else.

Anyway

Connect T. Rex to David Gray in six-degrees-of-separation style.  Two songs should crop up along the way.

Here's my crap attempt:

Man On Mars - Kaiser Chiefs

Illuminate - Orbital

Working:

T-Rex

Producer Tony Visconti

Also Produced Kaiser Chiefs - Man On Mars

Claimed lyrics by David Bowie

Who wrote about Major Tom in Orbit

David Gray appeared on Orbital's Illuminate

Here’s one for you.

1. It is the title track of a jazz album

2. The song originated from a musical

3. This version contains no vocals on it

Yeah, that's three reasons why I've got more chance of plaiting my piss than getting the answer.

And I'm too thick/tired/pished to reattempt Toastie's one.

I'll come back later.

I’ll give another hint. The song by this artist is over 10 minutes long...

A reminder - still to be solved:

I was at an 80s festival and Marc Almond was on, and I astonished myself by still knowing every single word of that song :)

Lets see what everyone is like at cryptic crossword clues.

Very warm state captures the Spanish song (5,10)

[obviously because it's on this thread the answer is the 'song' part of the clue so you only need to solve the first bit]

PS Just in case anyone accuses me of plagiarism this clue (or similar) was in one of the newspaper crosswords about a week ago.
