I realized that I am an idiot and forgot to confirm that the album that Deathray said that I said close but no cigar is in fact the album it’s off of.

No

If it's neither Sunday Morning or Heroin and it's from Velvet Underground & Nico then your opening gambit that it's one of the most critically acclaimed songs on the album is a falsehood!

It could be any of the also-ran songs; Venus in Furs or I'm Waiting for the Man would be the next rung down but frankly you've already shown your clue to be a falsehood.

It is that one, and yes, it has appeared on a lot of greatest songs list, so it’s not a falsehood...

It's however nowhere near as critically acclaimed as Heroin or Sunday Morning. "Most" is indicative of being at the top end of a spectrum, 3rd is definitely not most among ten.

Any as I'm too lazy to think of a new one, here's another couple my crossword:

Hard one:

An abode of little stability for games (song title) (5,2,5)

Why's there water in my desert pilgrimadge (band) (6,5)

Or the easy one:

Ensure termination of the pronoun (song title) (4,2,4)

tidal waters harass the sand in this manner (band) (4,5)

In Rolling Stone’s magazine list of the 500 greatest songs of all time (just to use them as an example), I’m Waiting For The Man was at #161, Heroin was at #455, and Sunday Morning didn’t appear on it at all. So that might contradict the trend you think they have...

Rolling Stones magazines is mainstream tosh and I suggest their rag being used as a barometer for critical acclaim is an indication of insanity

While everyone digs through albums they've never heard of for the crossword ones, here's something a bit more mainstream and easier.

An exclamation that (unless you count the Interto Cup) has alluded Newcastle this century so far.
