Oh fucking hell. I've only heard of her because of camp friends! So when I saw her on the number ones Wiki list, stab in the dark.

I'm more interested in the evidence she's become highly regarded by critics  Me and @Clorox Bleachman must read very different music magazines/websites to be quite frank. Anyway your turn to come up with a decent one by the looks of it :)

Ok, here's a savage street cred (what's that?) killing one:

This band has been dead longer than Nigel Hawthorne (just). Embarrassingly, I know many of their songs nearly word perfect, the consequences of a teenage fling. This song is their biggest UK charting hit – it didn’t get to number 1 but did chart higher than perhaps their two most famous tunes. It was however a number one in Australia in the mid 90s so cool? Think DI’s theme team, but not planets, that should be affirmation.  Anymore clues and we’ll need a coffee machine. PS The Goodies.

Right, that should give an answer within 5 mins...

It's a choon, I'm not even ashamed to say it! Truly Madly Deeply is horsewank though...

Right...

Rock song that charted pretty well from the 1990's, references someone from long before that.

I'm going to plump for 1963 by New Order.

A random guess: Brian Wilson by the Barenaked Ladies?

Warmer, in the sense that it's someone in the title. It's someone older than all the Beach Boys, though.

tbh I don't want to go again with another question, but if its not Buddy Holly, I'd be surprised.

It's worth saying the name in the title is only in the title, the song doesn't mention this person at all.

YW has got the time frame correct at least :D

OK - so, a "speedy" song from the mid-90's by an American rock trio...
