Yesterday? Everyone else in the world has had a go at it so why shouldn't Macca have revisited it twice himself...

No saying no to Back Off Maryport Boogaloo.

Indeed - recorded once as a single and twice as an album track by Ringo.

And let's reference the previous guess the song here. Ringo always admitted that his mate Marc Bolan - ahem - "inspired" his biggest UK (#2) hit.  An alternative view - supported by no written evidence but widely discussed away from the written page - is that Back Off...(which sports a riff that is pure Bolan) might be more of a co-composition than the publishing deal suggests and that a - kind of - trade off may have occurred when Ringo got full directing credit for Bolan's Born to Boogie movie filmed when all the Bolan biographies agree the fame was really starting to go to his head and the man was hard to manage or direct.

Either way, Ringo loves it so much he's cut it three times up to and including a 21st century version.

You're clearly involved despite the protestations this morning MCBWA - so the onerous responsibility of setting the riddle passes to you

That's Mancunians for yer

Once saw a quote from Noel Gallagher that made me laugh out loud - he said something like Marc Bolan was ripping off Oasis before Oasis were even born!

I'd definitely argue that one recording of that song is still one too many.

:P

Sadly it is still the fourth best selling single of all time in the UK.

Excuse my ignorance, but is that an observation on life or the next 'question'?

On the Smiths and Oasis, specifically. The next question is yours if you'd like to do the honours.
