Radio 2 DJ Johnnie Walker in need of heart op.

Given his cancer back along, and the excesses of the 60s/70s could be one to watch??

Thanks for the update.

This would be the perfect time for the team to amend the title of this thread so we can follow his progress (if there is any) there:

More like ideas for February 2019...

Thích Nhất Hạnh (b. 1926) - Vietnamese Buddhist monk, author, and peace activist. = Rad's words last year.

Mindfulness doyen* Hanh is now near the end of a long battle with failing health.

He suffered an incapacitating stroke in 2014 and was never able to walk or speak anymore.  I know only four people who have survived a serious stroke after 88: Hanh, Violeta Chamorro, Tin Oo and the inimitable general Anh.

I have been doing some more thinking about potential names:

From the world of British politics:

Lord Robert Armstrong (ex UK Cabinet Secretary) [91] (age at time of writing)

Lady Marcia Falkender (former advisor to PM Harold Wilson) [86]

Joe Haines [90]

Bernard Ingham (Thatcher's press secretary) [86]

Lord Norman Tebbit (Thatcher cabinet minister) [84]

Lord Kenneth Baker (Ditto) [84]

Lord Nigel Lawson (Chancellor of the Exchequer) [86]

Other:

Sir Lenox Hewitt (Australian senior public servant, father of Blair cabinet minister Patricia Hewitt) [now 101]

Tom Hughes, QC (Australian attorney general in the Gorton government) [95]

In light of June Whitfield's demise in Dec. 2018, it occurs to me that it may, sadly, be time to consider some British theatrical dames- (I have already mentioned Angela Lansbury and Joan Plowright):

Patricia Routledge [89]

The 1934 crowd

Judi Dench

Maggie Smith

Eileen Atkins

A Hemmingway would have to pen his obit for a QO to come out of it.

Christopher Plummer might be one to consider for 2020 as he does turn 90 this year.

So you’re saying we should consider all 90-year olds?  I guess start a list then....

Plummer, Christopher

Chemist Stewart Adams OBE, inventor of ibu. profen., turns 97 in 2020.

Don’t think he’s ever been mentioned here before despite his significance.

EDIT: I notice ibu.profen. is a banned word on here so spaced it out to avoid censorship.

Never mind. Dead at 95.

Yes, a bit terse but sometimes we have to state the obvious.
Something that isn't so obvious is that I -- Sir C -- am solely responsible for deciding who will be on the DL's Selection Committee year to year, though turnover is seldom if not rare.  I also decide who will sit on the Rules Committee and the same can be said for that.

Surprisingly has never been mentioned on this forum...

James Cross, the British diplomat who was kidnapped by the FLQ during the October Crisis of 1970 is still alive and will turn 98 this year.
