11 days later...

1)Andrea Camilleri: condition unchanged. Nothing has been released about him.

2)Gigi Simoni: condition unchanged. Nothing has been released about him.

3)Balbir Singh: still at Chandigarh PGI, but recovering and expected to be discharged very soon, according to his daughter.

3)Ershad: now breathing on his own and "well" according to his brother. Full recovery expected.

5)Beji Caid Essebsi: discharged from hospital and resumed his duties. Really had nothing to worry about.

6)Sir Everton Weekes: was never in critical conditions and only suffered a "minor" heart attack and fully recovered.

7)Zaheen Tahira: Taken off life support and shifted to a regular ward from ICU, now expected to make a full recovery.

Fuck you, medical science.

Only 3 going strong now

It may be only an impression, but IMHO Balbir is not doing too well at the moment. His daughter usually answers to every well-wisher on FB, while she didn't answer to any comment on the last post, which contained a 2017 interview of Balbir. The post started with "BALBIRS MAY COME & BALBIRS WILL GO...".

Simoni is still in ICU and probably on life support. Weekes seems to be the only one who really recovered, but you never know...

Although Herman Zapf (1918-2015) a famous German type designer and calligrapher died 4 years ago, his widow who was also born in 1918 is still alive.

Zapf created fonts such as Palatino (favoured by the writer Dean Koontz), Optima & Zaphifo (!); his widow Gudrun Zapf von Hesse (born on January 2nd 1918) is an equally famous typographer & calligrapher.

Harry Mockett, 20, an up-and-coming UK musician, was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year, but overcame it for now and has just released his first EP (straight to the BBC Introducing playlist):

Could he become the Billy Clayton of 2020?

Now Harry Mockett makes the jump to the BBC...

I've been following the trial of Carl Beech, aka 'Nick', this week and note that the former head of the armed forces, Lord Bramall, 95, who was falsely accused by Beech of being part of a gang of sadistic child abusers, will not be giving evidence due to his declining health and frailty.

As an aside, if Beech is found guilty, the chances of him topping himself might be fairly high.

Lord Bramall's victim impact statement was read in court by his solicitor at Carl Beech's sentencing today.

Quote

His statement was made before the trial because he was not sure that he would live long enough to see Beech convicted.

Former MLB commissioner Fay Vincent (1989-1992), now 81, wrote an op-ed that was published on July 19 in which he discusses his leukemia diagnosis and how he's basically in his dying days.  If he makes it to 2020, seems like a great pick.

I think his thread would’ve been a better choice.

Hmmm - Deathraceable assuming he makes it that far. DDP q/o chances are marginal, right?

I’d think it’s fairly likely he gets a DDP QO since he’s an Australian

Not quite sure if he classifies as famous enough but Ex-Survivor star Rudy Boesch is in his last hours. If he makes 2020 at all he's definitely a surefire option.

A "journey" with an unclear destination. I only travel knowing where I'm going to.
