Based strictly on actuarial tables then, he has a 14.7% chance of dying in the next year.

Dennis Skinner. Raison d'etre is in the toilet. Various health problems in the past and present. Will pine for the House of C bar and the banter. Become Billy no mates. A divorce he really did not want. Dead within the year.

Not as old as I thought he was - born 1938.

Rather sobering to think that at the height of the miners' strike he was the same age as I am now. He looked a lot older. No idea of health. Don't really care either, to be honest.

Spencer Compton, the Marquess of Northampton has claimed to cure his own cancer. I wonder if he’ll also magically cure the brain tumor of Chris Doleman.

It's interesting everyone and I mean everyone on the Chris Doleman bandwagon.  I wasn't aware that former NFL players who weren't mega stars get QOs in UK sources.
Hell, did Bart Starr?  I assume so, but he WAS a mega starr (pun intended).  Doleman?  A decent player... but ... is no one else questioning his QO chances?  He will not be on any list I turn in.  I hope you all hop on the bandwagon and it careens into the Ditch of Despair.  I'm banking on it.

I picked Doleman this year as NFL Hall of Famers have a very reliable record of getting Mail wires obits. You have to go back to 2015 to find ones who didn't get any Mail AP/Reuters obits (albeit a couple since never got a full-fledged obit and only a brief mention of their death in an article - but then, in the DDP that counts nevertheless).

Also note that the biggest of the lot like Bart Starr got obits beyond Mail, but I'm just using Mail obits for convenience:

I feel like his age plays a big part in this as well. He's still in his late 50s. I'd be surprised if he didn't obit, but it's not a far-fetched theory.

Show me a list of NFL players who have 'obitted' (word?).  I'll guarantee all HOF players.  Or notable.  For instance, OJ Brigance will never QO.  Steve Gleason very likely.
I have put Willie Wood's name on a pile of DPs.  He was a star for the early Green Bay Packers original Super Bowl teams.  QO slightly iffy but 85% I'd say.  I also used Otis Taylor, a great player in his day, and loser to the Packer teams original Super Bowl.  But he is NOT a HOF player (there's a travesty) and never won the big prize, so a bit more iffy, but 70% or so.  Doleman maybe in that territory but he never won anything and a good player but not great.  His name isn't on a single QO source to date.  I'd like to know why you would be 'surprised' he didn't QO.  I'd say it's a 50-50 proposition.  Maybe slightly higher.  I'm still waiting for Nick Bockwinkle's QO btw.

Good stuff, DI, though I'm convinced the Americans made up some of these names to take the piss out of the Brits. "Uh yeah, sure, Yale Lary was a legend here, give him an obit..." "Did they fall for it?"

*B)

Thich Nath Hanh's health has been weaker since his birthday as he was diagnosed with pneumonia. The man is now hospitalized in Thailand for check-ups (has been there for two weeks), but results are "smooth" and "very promising" and he is expected to come back to Vietnam soon.

Talk about the art of dying, fucking dork.

Yoko Ono. I know someone who knows someone who knows her, and apparently her friends are having a big Christmas party for her this year because they don't think she will make it to next Christmas

Patricia Driscoll is 92 today. Not a well-known name but she will get many obituaries when she dies. An actress but best known for presenting Picture Book over 60 years ago as one of the 5 Watch with Mother programmes - the others being Andy Pandy, The Woodentops, Rag, Tag and Bobtail and The Flower Pot Men.

Almost the right order.  The Flower Pot Men were on Wednesdays, and Friday was The Woodentops (with the biggest spotty dog you ever did see).  :)
