If his false teeth popped out at AOC's idea to tax the rich at 70%, what would he make of that Great Reset crap? That bullshit New World socialist order that privileged Prince Charles, Prime Minstrel Trudeau and president-elect/nursing home escapee Joe Biden keep worshiping.

Isn't it really easy to be head of the Federal Bank when the economy is booming and everything's going okay? America was rolling in it during the Reagan years

Greenspan gave loads of interviews last year, and I had thought the decrease in appearances since perhaps signalled something.

But, he re-emerged 2 weeks ago to give a half hour interview. Looks and sounds about the same – somewhat frail, but still mentally there, and not giving the impression that he's about to kick the bucket imminently.

He's one of those names who could just die rather suddenly at his age (a bit like Shultz), but with little to go on and with him still being relatively active, it would be better to drop him in favour of a stronger pick IMO.

I agree (I think he's got a year or two in him yet) but also: if he did die off the list, would it matter? There's only 50 names each year, of which about 10-12 are carried each year because they are old. Does Alan Greenspan jump out as a must keep instead of, say, a June Brown or Harry Belafonte? I've read his memoirs and I still say no.

I knew Robert Solow prior to visiting this site, but didn’t heard about Greenspan before. Solow is well known for the Solow model and is 2 years older than Greenspan. I think if they want to put an economist on the list, it would be smarter to include Solow for next year

Agree. Until he is either reported to be Ill or is 98 onwards he can be dropped.

And thus dies Alan Greenspan on the 6th of December 2021

Was anybody sad when the committee missed the death of his predecessor Paul Volcker?

In their defense, one would have needed genius levels of skills, to be a deadpooler of the highest quality, to predict his death.

I see what you did there.

No recent videos or news stories (that one from last month about men's underwear was an old story).

For someone as messianic as Alan Greenspan that's a BAD sign. He's one of the people who NEEED to be on television everytime.

Plus, when I look at that slightly cancer-y, thin picture of him in the CNN article thumbnail, I kind of think, that the end is nigh. I think the committee was right to pick him this year.

His successor just got a Nobel Prize. Surely that's enough for him to check out?

Still there intellectually last month giving his few cents worth on direction of the dollar in 2023, writing it in a commentary.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-11-02/ex-fed-chief-greenspan-sees-dollar-with-tailwind-into-2023

Walters’ death must have thrown him a bit though (they dated in the 1970s). Greenspan seems a half-half good pick for 2023 (like Chomsky), there would be many worse drops out of 2022’s surviving DL candidates (e.g., Whale, Carter, Kundera, Ackland, Starmer-Smith etc.)

Whale and Starmer Smith would be horrible drops off the list actually

Actually I see I misread your message, that’s my mistake. I thought you were claiming they should drop them

Nobel prizes are dished out like Ferrero Rocher chocolates to Keynesians and their Marxist allies

If he's got his Randian marbles, Greenspan should hang on and debunk their inflationary idiocies.

He hasn't made a public appearance or appeared on tv since November of 2020. I wouldn't be surprised if he passed before the end of the year.

^ Well, he did appear at last fall's Greenwich Economic Forum for a few minutes, and didn't seem to have noticeably declined from that 2021 video linked earlier. I suspect he's mostly just not interested in the spotlight these days, given he doesn't really appear to have regularly hit the media circuit for some years now. And, well, he is 97...

He was, at least, alive at the end of 2022. From what I can tell, that's the last time anyone has seen or heard from him.

Thank you, I hadn't seen this video. I was always going of the fact that his wife attends a number of high profile events without him.
