So tragic :D we lost Ian Brady last year, Robert Black this year, so lets have a triple success next year- Peter Sutcliffe, your time is up!!!

I'm expecting it to be the highest combined age, ever... Does anyone keep a running tally of the ages at the start of the year..?

Re TheDeathofBrian

Agree, and a 100yr old has a 1 in 3 chance of not making 101! Is that cheating??

Such an interesting list. Not sure how I feel about it though tbh. Glad to see Gorby and Poitier on it though.

First thoughts.

Shocked Connery and Benny got dropped, but Leslie Philips dropping might be the most shocking since... Jarusezlki?

GORBACHEV! At fucking last.

Its good but its not the best thing in the world. Lots of picks are their solely for age.

Gorbachev and Tony Britton made it at last! :D

I am also shocked that Leslie Phillips isn't there. He has proved he's a fighter so far though as many didn't see him getting this far but can he see 2020?

Larry King has future wives who are probably not even born yet.........other then that no complains on the 50

Phillips drop seems a fatal one dough

And Ricksen snub is a headscratcher

Third No. 1 for Kirk Douglas? A little boring imo.

No Pope? That's shocking.

No DingDong, no Pope Ben...but at least Nobby's back.

Tina Turner's an interesting shout.

Yeah, I thought the committee gets bored and picks Herman Wouk instead...

A solid list - a few crowdpleasers in there. I think it will be better than last year's one, somewhere around 14-15 hits.

Glad they removed Gazza. Might inspire him to lead an even more unhealthy life to get back on for next year.

Hmm, some interesting newbies. Johnny Clegg is a good one, as is Bob Hawke.

I can see why they didn't go for Fernando Ricksen (angry Rangers fans) nor Tim Conway (American-only fame). Jean Louis Trintignant a bad miss, though!

Sort of disappointed they didn't choose Rosalynn Carter, or Queen Lizzy for that matter. Not likely to die, I know, but would be good ''too big to miss'' choices. They certainly would've been better picks than Vanessa Redgrave and Larry King, imho.

Jill Gascoine, Pope Benny, and Leslie Phillips are bold drops. Though, I assume Gascoine was dropped after they realized what a surprising success it was to boldly drop Nobby for a year.

Overall, I predict 12/50.

A couple of names that scream to me they should be on there but aren't.

  1. Pope Benedict
  2. Bill Turnbull
  3. George Alagaih
  4. The Queen
  5. Barbara Windsor
  6. Thelma Barlow / Barbara Knox / William Roache (or at least a famous Corrie name)
  7. Gazza or Sansom should really be in the mix.

Aside from that seems a fairly decent list.  2 of those 7 are dropped names to be fair.

Glad to see Bob Hawke, June Brown, Nobby Stiles, Bracknell, John McCririck and many other solid picks make it.

Not bad, seems pretty solid. A bit Yank-centric for my tastes but... Wouldn't have bothered with Honor Blackman or Dick Van Dyke as both seem in good health, and don't even know who Johnny Clegg is.

You do know Ginger Baker is touring this year, don't you? Not that it means anything but obviously someone out there is confident in his health.  And I keep seeing Vanessa Redgrave's name being mentioned - other than getting on a bit I've not heard anything about her health.

My DL Prediction List and my Shadowlist will outperform the Committee in 2019.

And if they don't, then they won't.

And those are my bold claims and thoughts.

Clegg is a South African musician from the 80s who got banned for being anti-apartheid, but was absolutely massive since (and a Whistle Test style audience fave in the West). Also has relapsed pancreatic cancer.

Baker is 80 soon and has had COPD for years. Touring but it'll catch up before long.

Redgrave has smoking related lung issues. Sounds and looks a lot frailer than she used to for much of 2017-18.
