Sinisa Mihajlovic

Recommended Posts

Probably no point sitting on this pick so let's push it towards the 2020 Drop 40. One of the best footballers of the 1990s and one of the best managers in the current game, Sinisa Mihajlovic, has stepped down from his job as Bologna boss with immediate effect after being diagnosed with a "serious illness". Italian news suggests it's a severe form of leukaemia. Igor Stimac has not yet issued a statement.

Do we have any information on whether it is acute myeloid leukemia or acute lymphocytic?  The Guardian just says "acute leukemia".  If it's the latter then I don't see justification for picking him, but if it's the former he's probably a 50/50-ish case.

It's acute myeloid leukemia. For Balkan info, ask Balkan deathlister, me.

As Serie A starts up again (can anyone beat Juventus? No.) Mihaljovic is apparently coaching Bologna from his hospital bed.

Reminded of the time he got a red card during a Champions League match and then tried to sneak back out to pitchside disguised as a medic.

So he's dragged himself out of hospital, apparently against doctors' advice, went to the stadium and coached in person. Impressive tbh.  1-1 away to Verona.

Still hospitalised. He looks OK but I'm not getting good vibes from this...

He looks thinner than the last picture of them both, although it's hard to tell. I share your fears.

Not much of a difference for people his age. ALL is a disease most commonly seen in 2 to 3-year-olds, of course the survival rate will look much better.

Gravely ill? A tweet from a respected journalist and close friend suggests so.

Reports he had died were dismissed earlier today.
