Actually, I've misunderstood the rules. Never mind.

I was always taught don’t start something you can’t finish.  So sadly I won’t be submitting a team.

So anywhere from 1-3 people on your team will live to 100. These rules need to be changed. Maybe make it 50% of your team needs to die to win since it is called 50/50. That will still take years but it’s better than decades. Also I don’t understand why you’re announcing teams that submitted, are you seriously putting a deadline on team submissions? This pool needs major changes to work. 598F4769-612F-486B-AE64-71F489B48750.jpeg.72c60b4e54d38a84418d6e98b0e363f6.jpeg

Objections noted.I will keep it going as it is though.I am hoping to live to see the end of it.Even if I drop dead the game can still continue without a host. The cutoff point is designed to make it manageable to keep track of.

Only argument against your stats is that everyone is choosing people presumably in poor health or at least a history of it.  So seeing 100 less likely than average.  However we also have a 'survivors' thread that bears out even the ill can get a second wind in life.

I think Banana's suggestion of 50% is a sensible compromise in keeping with the theme. Will still take a few years I imagine but not ridiculously so.

I am open to that but have already set the rules. We could always split the game into first half and second half.If after crowning the 50% winner over 50% of participants don't wish to continue we could call it quits?

What's laughable is the first few posts were concerned about the sources for a QO...... like in 15 years they will even exist!

(EDIT) OK now THAT is a pool entry for me.  I will enter the names of all the QO sources and y'all can post 50 names, and we shall see if my list dies out first.

I think the game will only take about a decade tops, myself.

In unrelated news, my team is in. B)

I don't mind, It's your game Sean, you choose the rules (Lesley Gore's  'it's my party' rule...)

. Having entered with a team of people

* mostly not much older than me all of whom probably have more money/access to better private healthcare than me should they ever need it,

* over half of whom are women

* only half a dozen of which have anything wrong with them

I shall be amazed  to outlive 25 of them, and there's absolutely no chance I'll survive all of them. Still, it's only a bit of fun, not as if it's life or death, is it...

Yes, true, but if I can regale you with some words of wisdom from my late grandfather:

The obvious being that this is the DL equivalent of a space ark. You pass your team on to your kids.

My first thought was 'holy shit, there's no way '. Further reflection leaves me intrigued though.  I will think of it as an exercise in impermanence- there is a real chance that neither I, the site, or just the pool will survive to see a winner emerge. I like that. And how many other pools have a ready made theme song? By one of my favorite groups no less? Gotta be part of that.  Now to scramble a list together in one day.....

You could easily change it as the rules are so simple.  There's no elaborate scoring system: picks count if they die and that's it.  So making the change wouldn't affect people's selections.  I think it would sustain more interest with 25 as a target.
