As far as I know Marsden and butler are alive at least I can't find a death

Died on 29 December 2022 according to this Facebook post.

Just adding it here in case Hugman's wish to use it, seeing as he may not get an obit from any footie site.

How random. Slow news day clearly.

A tribute from a PL club probably helps.

You mean Arthur Smith from Bury and Leicester ? Just to be sure, Smith being a common name.

Anyway, thanks for the answer

Another source that says Royden Wood is the oldest Leeds player (Scott did play in goal so I do think the other three mentioned above are dead as they are all outfield and surely someone would've brought at least one of them up) - https://theathletic.co.uk/1282784/2019/10/14/the-player-who-shared-a-dressing-room-with-stanley-matthews-and-the-beatles/

Royden Wood has died aged 92: https://www.leedsunited.com/news/team-news/31016/rip-roy-wood-1930-2023

Josser Watling has become one of the ten first inductees into Bristol Rovers' Hall of Fame.

Announcement here.

Confirms he is the oldest player from the club still alive (not sure if that was known already?). Gives no recent update of him or a quote/reaction...

Still alive, but according to Twitter, has fallen recently.

GET WELL JOSSER

Former Rovers defender Josser Watling broke his hip in a fall at home last week.

He’s undergone successful surgery to fix the damage.

Rovers oldest living player will be 98 in May and I’m sure I speak for all Rovers supporters in wishing him a complete recovery.

Was on the books at New Brighton as a teenage but didn't play for them (or at least Wikipedia says he didn't).... a quick bit of Wikipedia intersection searching suggests that Bobby Williams is the only living person to have played a league match for New Brighton before their demotion in 1951. Anyone know better?

Edit: or I could have looked at the first post in this thread and found out yes, he is.

Yes, he's aged very significantly in the last couple of years based on that.
