Derby Dead Pool 2020

That’s why I only said Noble was a slight obit risk. I still think he’s about 80 - 20 to receive the obit, but depending on timing of his death he definitely could be one that press could look over.

Look at that Pelican go!

The Living End lurches into the top 50 and I'm actually quite hopeful of some more hits before the year is out.

Mark Allen is a bust pick. However, Belinda Sykes' Twitter account has gone ominously quiet which makes me think I've got points coming thataway in the near future, and I saw a picture from Maria Menounous' Instagram account that seemed to suggest Litsa has got one of those "I've gone home to die" cancer beds.

Well, during Covid the world and his dog has got one of those beds and they're likely being produced in such volume the unit price has dropped and they're the thrifty person's go-to bed of choice, or summat!

Well, it's a longshot but...

That nameless racehorse would be into its sixth decade if it was still this side of a glue factory!

Any health news Alagiah, Banali, N Conway, Gulpilil, Kerslake, Yoo Sang-Chul, Tom Smith, Leon Spinks, Nobby Stiles, Alex Trebek, Jean-Louis Trintignant, Bill Turnbull and Van Halen?

Any of them certain hit or miss for 2020?

Lots of plausible names...

... and we are in the phase when we wonder if our "certain hits" at the end of 2019 are still "certain hits" in the remaining months of 2020.

Well, if you ask me:

Alagiah: To me, he seemed very, very stable in the past years - so that I think that even with the cancer in the lungs, he's going to last a few months into 2021

Banali: Was supposed to be a certain hit in 2020 -  I still think he is. He's currently "hanging in there" and "fighting the good fight". "Doing well considering the circumstances". Lots of buts and ifs.

N. Conway: Haven't heard much of him in a while, there'll be no suicide bonus points, but he could leave this earth any day

Gulpilil: He was also supposed to be a lock in 2020 - and now that he's still alive, you wonder if he still is...

Kerslake: He had a cancer recurrence in March and silence since then... I gave him 6 months, i.e. until September.

Yoo Sang-Chul: Supposedly doing better, but I wouldn't underestimate pancreatic cancer. Still, not nearly as much of a lock as originally thought.

Tom Smith: Hanging in there, could fall to a quick deterioration - or not. Everyone's joker in 2021 if he survives the year

Leon Spinks: Very shaky health. Lots of different ailments that could fuse into something lethal.... or he might also hang for a while like Errol Christie.

Nobby Stiles: He could be dead tomorrow - or linger on for years as some dementia folks do.

Alex Trebek: Stable, and looking more and more likely to survive 2020. I wouldnt't pay attention to all the thousand things he said last week, during the PR-campaign of his book.

Jean-Louis Trintignant: Should have been dead by now.

Bill Turnbull: Probably not nearly as close to death as some people think - the cancer is rather slow.

Van Halen: Might be doing worse than generally thought, but that's (mostly) just my feeling. But then, even if his throat cancer is really aggressive, he might yet beat it under heavy cost, like Val Kilmer.

Some will live into 2021 and become Drop 40 again, some will die before then. I am roughly in agreement with Reptile on who but these things often surprise in the exact moment. Which is why we keep coming back to the DDP.  No matter how good folk become at scouring Google or reading up on cancer stats, no two DDP picks are identical. That's why this year there's more cancer picks than you can fit on a bus, and yet a crucial talking point for the rest of the year is if Jimmy Carter continues to live or not.

There's absolutely no point drawing up lists just yet, many many dead certs will be dead by December. Just wait.

To be fair half of that bus wouldn't be well known in their own street, let alone nationally and certainly won't score points.

Hah, yes, although I was thinking more of the likes of Kerslake and Trebek who at least have some notability, and not the folk who are in danger of having their bus tickets removed...

Eddie Van Halen is on short-to-medium lists?  FFS ‘whoever thinks that‘ and Sir Creep are NOT on the same page.  100 pounds of coffee to anyone who puts Eddie Baby on their DDP list and gets a hit with him in 2021.

Lee Kerslake has a Facebook page and is still kind of active on it. He looks ill, although he looks chubbier than the average cancer patient, so who knows when the cancer will finally kill him (I think prostate cancer cases usually need to have more than just the cancer to have a likely chance of scoring imo)...

It'll come this week at some point. But you got 2 mentions on the front page this year already! One during the Nicholas Parsons write up ("Nicholas Bloody Parsons (Mr Jolly reference) was picked by 17 teams, including veterans Lard Bazaar and Dave’s Dead Aye Dead Drunk.") and in the Terry Jones one ("and 14th year in the DDP regular Lard Bazaar! Well done.")

Bah, nobody reads the fucking things. :(

Thank you for my Lord Hutton mention!

In the nicest most benign possible way I'm hoping that if more of my many unique picks die that will increase my chances of a front page mention on DDP!:)

Christina Crawford,  Duchess of Kent,  Jacqueline White etc etc

I do, just on the off-chance that one of my picks has died.

But then it doesn't get mentioned when one does :(

Ah, I'm afraid I lost track of Maggie Fitzgibbon (as there was a fortnight delay between death and obit). I shall aim to mention here at next update (and can usually count on young Joey to pointout folk I forgot!). Your theme team did get mentioned when Ronan O'Rahilly died as he was a unique pick.
