Going by the tone of your post you'd class me as a nutter (I voted in Jeremy Corbyn's favour in the 2015 leadership race, 2016 leadership race, 2017 and election, 2019 election.....), I and many of my fellow nutters will be throwing our weight behind the one man who can actually beat Boris at the next election..... I will let the Party decide. Then I will decide if I can stomach it. Besides, my priority is seeing the end of the SNP up here. My constituency is one of the few which booted them out in 2017 and kept them out in 2019 and it didn’t involve the Labour Party...
TQR 14,408 Posted January 4, 2020 Lammy rules himself out. As good a leader as I think he’d be, it’d have been an uphill struggle winning support in the North; he’s only really widely known about within a 30 mile radius of London.

I'm not sure he's any more hypocritical or odious than, say, the average Labour politician (which, in turn, is less than the average LD/CON politician). Just because we're leaving the EU, doesn't necessarily mean the next Labour leader has to like it. Starmer's an ardent Remainer, too. I think he knows he's not electable enough at this time to bother standing. Once Labour is out of the gutter, maybe. But that could be years and years away. Whilst I absolutely agree that only absolute cunts do third person talk, I haven’t seen Lammy do it yet...I’m ready to be stand corrected though? Either way, this is all immaterial; Lammy will always remain a nice (subject to opinion) idea, and nothing more than that.
msc 18,483 Posted January 4, 2020 Middle ground: David Lammy comes across as a cheery, well meaning chap whose slip ups seem to come from an overly passionate want to try and help people. That said, he ain't leader material at all. PS Barring Boris Johnson getting feared, Brexit happens in 27 days time. The next election is in 2024. I don't see the Remain/Leave position of a party leader mattering a jot at that time, unless Brexit has really fucked up things badly.

Well short of electing a racist cunt who appeals to people only vote Labour cos there parents did, what do you suggest? Everyone else in the running is a left wing nutter or incompetent. And we don't need to won we need to win just do well enough to stop the Tories forming a government.

I suggest, as a last resort, that they get on bended knees and ask Alan Johnson to step in, even as an interim leader to take the party forwards. He is a PROPER socialist, you must have seen his rant on election night, devastating stuff. I cannot for the life of me understand where the idea that any fucker that was happy to serve under CorbynCunt is remotely electable with people OUTSIDE of London. I tell you now, if Starmer gets the gig you are even more fucked than you were with CorbynCunt. You know my feelings on the Labour party but, Christ, we NEED a credible opposition to keep the government in check and, by the look of it, that will not happen for a very long time unless the extremist 'We march on Downing St within 24hrs of the Election result, waving our Socialist worker sponsored placards vowing resistance' element is fucked off into the blue yonder. Again, the march was London Centric. The rest of the country got the measure of Corbyn, momentum and all it really stood for and didn't like it. That is a major, not a complete, part of why you lost so HEAVILY. Do the maths.
msc 18,483 Posted January 4, 2020 Alan Johnson was offered the leadership on a plate at least twice, once in far better circumstances than now (2014), and ran a mile. He was handed the leadership of the Labour Remain campaign in 2015 by Hariet Harman when she was Acting Labour Leader and full of her I Know Better than Everyone Mode, and he then made 14 public appearances during the referendum campaign compared to Boris Johnsons 300 odd. He really can't be arsed at anything approaching actual leadership. (Also he's not an MP but the other point is more pertinent...)

There would still be a need to find somebody of his ilk in order to change things, there is no doubts whatsoever that either Momentum fucks off or the party splits because it does not appear that the current leadership want to moderate or change course to a more 'Johnsonesque' type of political ideology or summat. Charlotte's Controller 195 Posted January 4, 2020 I'm not entirely sure what relevance the leadership race has at the moment. Labour need policies, a sense of reality and a cohesive force to push things forward. This will not happen with negative career politicians whose sole aim is to milk the system take no responsibility and criticise any who do. We have to remember that most local services are labour mismanaged and yet criticism is aimed at central government. In many cases councils and government bring in expensive consultants who are poorly supervised and directed but must be overseen by even more expensive managers. This unfortunately is the best example of the Peter Principle. I think we need some middle ground with masters who have not been to public school and studied PPE at Oxbridge or their equivalent.
