As it stands, Emily Thornberry, off of not on the ballot paper yet, needs to garner the support of 23 more CLPs (she has 10) and/or 3 affiliate groups (she has 0) by next Friday to make it on to the paper. It's taken her a month and a half to get this far. She's always been popular, has Emily.

Not quite. She needs 33, and has 17. But still a tall order, although 200 odd constituencies are yet to nominate.

 

All 5 have made it onto the Deputy leader ballot: Rayner, Burgon, Butler, Murray and Allin-Khan.

Out of all of them, and they are all shit candidates, Nandy is the least offensive of them all.

Even then, she doesn't look like she could pull the skin off of a rice pudding, no statesmanship at all.

Rebecca Long-Shot-Bailey seems to be the way forward, a mass resignation of labour MPs would put the final nail in the coffin for the labour party.

A lot more Labour MPs want Starmer in charge but you've got to remember that a lot of Labour's base is socialist/communist - who are more likely to vote for Long Bailey because she is a Corbynite. SJWs in the party are also likely to vote for Long Bailey as they believe Labour needs a female leader because it is the 21st century and #OldWhiteMenAreCancelled. I reckon it'll be too close to call.

So I'm just starting to watch Newsnight and I'm forming some opinions.

 

At the referendum my opinion of the general British population was confirmed. Racist, uneducated out of touch.

 

Following there has been a lack of focus except for to get it done.

 

Labour have no plan but borrow.

 

Conservatives are doing the same.

 

The major problems are caused by lack of social interaction, HR, expectations, you should not expect a vehicle, mobile phone etc unless you can afford it.

 

On HS2 it takes me an hour and a half to travel 12 miles on public transport if it is not cancelled, better local provision will make a bigger impact and improve the lives for more people.

 

Politicians promise but fail to implement and then resort to enquiries nobody is ever responsible.

 

On Newsnight they still seem out of touch and clueless. Kier Starmer on the quality within the NHS was a notable exception as a Tory myself he seems decent.

I'm operating on the assumption that the tory majority is of such a large size that labour are out of office for the best part of a decade regardless of who their leader is.I think we are in the territory currently of who can make the most progress in cutting that majority not overturning it.

4 years is a long time though and a lot could happen to turn the country away from the Tories in that time (such as a recession)

 

So I'd want someone who could become PM if the opportunity to rose and Starmer is the only one of the three I can see that in.

The only thing I am certain of is that Rebecca Long Bailey doesn't cut the mustard and would be a disaster for labour as leader!

 

The liberal Democrats are also off most peoples radar and I am beginning to wonder if their haul back to significant level of relevance is going to take as long as it took after their electoral wipeout in the  early 20th century?
