US blogger on aging, Ronni Bennett, died last night at 79:

https://www.timegoesby.net/

She got some Washington Post coverage, and her pancreatic cancer diagnosis got her into my Hare's team last year. She seemed to be doing okay with it though, for quite some time.

Aye, a fair point - the loser, whoever he is, goes away with way more votes than got Trump elected in 2016

Cruciverbalist John Dawson has died aged 74. He was Chifonie in The Guardian and  Armonie in the FT.

He was a friend of Bryan Ferry's - they used to walk to school together - of whom he said

Quote

He couldn’t sing then, either.

Under the radar name on my shortlist...

....infectious disease expert Val Curtis has died of cancer, already a few days ago:

https://www.bmj.com/content/371/bmj.m4119

She foretold her impending cancer death just a bit ago, and said that the medical bottleneck caused by the COVID epidemic might have been to blame:

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/jul/16/extra-cancer-deaths-this-year-covid19-nhs-health

No sign of a QO so far, but I think it will or would have come.

Ah, here is the QO for Val Curtis, dead at 62:

David Deutchman, "ICU grandpa", who made news 3 years ago by hugging premature babies, dead after a short pancreatic cancer fight:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-8959029/ICU-grandpa-cuddled-hospital-babies-14-years-dies-cancer-age-86.html

Never heard of him.

Honestly? I appreciate how he was viewed but I'm not sure I would have wanted a stranger 'grandad' cuddling my newborn.

Maybe it is just the world we now live in but I'd find that a bit too creepy.

Not sure why Wiki has her as Jane Furlong in the heading, but June Furlong in the text.
